They will spend time studying published Tall Tales and the elements that are consistent throughout , going through the narrative writing process, and publishing their final Tall Tale.
Students will be working through several relevant mini assignments that tie into the idea of exaggeration. Including: responding to a graphic about hyperbole, studying tall tale elements in published works, imagining the impact on their life if they had a Tall Tale hero or heroine as a parent, creating a presentation about exaggeration and the motives behind it, participating in a "Rotten Tomatoes" peer review, deciding if exaggeration and lies are the same, and reporting through 5 forms of social media.
Included with this project is a teacher guide, final project rubric, student directions, teacher and student resources, videos, writing process support pages, peer editing check list.
