Macbeth is accosted by three witches, who prophesy that Macbeth will be King of Scotland. Fueled by ambition and encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills Duncan and assumes the throne, launching a series of events that will leave him haunted by ghosts and his conscience, and leave Lady Macbeth unable to wash the blood from her hands.
