Any NaNoWriMo fans? I'm wanting to participate in National Novel Writing Mouth this November by penning a 50,000-word novel. I'd love for my students to do the same, but I worry it's too daunting of a task for some of them since many of my kids either participate in extra-curriculars or work one or more jobs to help support their families. I'm thinking of making this optional, but I'd like to offer some sort of reward to those who participate. I'm conflicted, though, because for some reason I'm not sure if offering extra credit is a true measure of academic achievement. I also do a Hunter Games PBIS point system to foster competition among my classes (juniors and seniors) that has gone incredibly well. Should I offer points for every student who participates? What can I give my students as a reward for participation? Anyone done this or something similar in his/her classes? I'll take any advice you want to offer.

I would LOVE to have my students so that...might have to think about it a little bit more so I can make it happen.

When I came across this article, "3 Things New Teachers Need to Know About Classroom Management," it made me think about my own classroom routines and instruction. Sometimes I feel I miss the third point sometimes! What are some of your time saving routines or relationship builders?
