The Bill of Rights Institute is offering to sponsor a one-time informational and educational event in Colorado high schools before the end of this semester. The institute will provide all the necessary resources and materials including food and refreshments, pocket Constitutions to students, and a prize drawing of $200 for a lucky student in attendance who also signs up to receive information on educational opportunities from the institute. The teacher host will receive a stipend of $150. The schools that hold the event will additionally have priority receiving grants to start Constitution Clubs in the 2014-2015 school year.

The Constitution-themed educational events could take the form of study parties, review sessions for any upcoming exams, movie meetings or school wide assemblies, it really is up to you!

We are happy to help provide speakers, but if schools prefer to choose their own that is also great (i.e. law professors, local scholars, mayors, city council members, resource officers, local representatives, etc).

    Some topic ideas for events:
    • Anything related to states vs. federal government rights
    • Education as a civil right (a historical overview with modern day impacts/ statistics/ examples)
    • Current supreme court cases – and how the supreme court impacts students' day to day lives
    • The 4th Amendment or the role of the NSA in modern America
    • Anything related to the Constitution or Bill of Rights

Ideally we'd like to have the event in the next two weeks before April 14th, but any time before the school year ends is fine with us—we're excited about offering more learning opportunities to students!
Visit our website for more information about the Constitution Club program and check out our FAQs: http://billofrightsinstitute.org/teacher-spon...

There is also a referral program and opportunity for you to earn additional funds, by referring high school teachers in your network to host events you earn $50 for every event that takes place.

Please contact Maribel, mwong@billofrightsinstitute.org (703) 939-9795, if you have any questions or would like to host an event at your school.

    Have you seen this?

I think it's a powerful way to help make the Declaration relevant to kids today. It also gives perspective to the slavery question with regards to the founding fathers.

    • Mrs. Hoff - Love this one, we had a lot of fun doing the hand gestures, and my students actually remembered the amendments. We all had a great laugh at the dogs, too.
