Please join this group to assist us in collecting data for a science fair project. There will only be four questions so it won't take much time. Once all that data has been collected the site will be removed from Edmodo.

Thank you for your help in regards to this scientific endeavor,

My name is Mr. Hyde :-)

I have a favor to ask - my 6th grade geography class is very excited about the Revolver Map we added to our class webpage (as well as the Flag counter). As you can imagine, patience is not in abundance :) They check it every day to see if anyone from a place other than Wisconsin has checked out our site. If you would be so kind as to simply click on our site so your visit is registered - they would be thrilled! It will give us a great lead into talking about the different locations. http://mrsmerkel.weebly.com

Teacher in SUPER small school looking to connect my classes with other peoples' classes through Skype or Google hangout:

Beaver Island Community School / Beaver Island, MI

    68 kids K-12

I am the sole secondary ed. social studies teacher and try to help my students connect with people abroad. This is my first time reaching out through Edmodo. So, here are the separate requests:

7th/8th grades (11 students): Eastern Hemisphere Studies - Would love to connect with a class in the eastern hemisphere! About anything, really, but most likely connected to culture. We can work out the details. Any time in the next several weeks.

9th/10th grades (14 students): U.S. History and Geography - Would love to connect regarding the question: “Are urban communities harder hit than rural communities during an economic depression?” We are rural, so, probably a class in an urban setting would be best. I am hoping to connect to the recent slump, but also tied to the Great Depression. Within the next few weeks.

11th/12th grades (9 students): World History and Geography – Would love to connect with any class outside of the United States – Latin America if possible – regarding the question: “Does the United States possess an empire?” Any time in the next several weeks.

It is possible that a reply to me may get lost in the feed, or perhaps I will just be inattentive to Edmodo (sorry!), but if you reply and do not hear back from me within a day, I can be reached at either adamr@bics.us or adamanos@gmail.com

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Spanish-learning class looking for native-Spanish students to engage in a "pen-pal" exchange occasionally. Please reply if you are interested!

    Hello,
I am an American teacher situated in NJ looking for a teacher of students roughly 12-14 in a foreign country for a casual sort of "video pen pal" exchange with my International Club. Your students could be English speaking or English learners. Last year I collaborated with a wonderful group of students and teacher in Thailand and we exchanged over a dozen video clips about our cultures and countries, culminating in a care package sent at the end of the year. My club meets weekly or sometimes bi-weekly for 45 minutes at a time.

    Please reply if interested.

I teach 8th grade global studies and 9th grade geography. I am learning Google Earth and ArcGIS this summer for implementation into these two courses this upcoming year to fulfill the new Minnesota State Social Studies Standards. I am looking for some help with lesson ideas and/or lesson plans to help get me started with implementation. Would appreciate any ideas/suggestions you might like to share for "an old dog learning new tricks."Thank you!
    • Mrs. Pollock - I just posted an introductory activity on creating a spatial journal 9 annotated Map) in Google Earth. How could I get that to you? Are you aware of ARC GIS online? What GIS program are you using? Can you see my Block Geography grades 11 and 12 class?

I teach 7th grade US Studies, 8th grade Global Studies, 9th grade Civics and Geography, 10th grade American History, and 11th grade World History in a rural Minnesota 7-12 school of about 200 students. I am looking for activities and games for my students (at all levels) to "play" over the summer; some for review of the previous year and some for "fun" introductions to new topics I'll focus on in the coming year. Besides the obvious with the course titles, I am also looking for activities in economics, at the middle school level, for my US Studies and Global Studies courses. Additionally, if you have any ideas for me using GIS or Google Earth (which I am trying to learn this summer) for my Geography and Global Studies classes, I would appreciate any help you can offer. Right now I have some great activities/games from iCivics (mostly all dealing with government topics) and a cool "Pyramid Builder" game from the BBC. I like to throw in some "learning" to my students throughout the summer, but I would love to have more games/activities, to which they may be more apt to look and participate. Thank you in advance for your sharing, advice, and expertise.

    • World Savvy - Sounds like you have an fun summer planned for your students! We don't actually have one-off "games" available. Our curriculum is very centered around project based learning and while many of our lesson involved interactive activities and arts integration, I don't believe we would have the kind of games you are looking for. However, I'd still recommend taking a moment to check out our resources page - you may find something else useful! worldsavvy.org/community-resources/

I have a group of students who will be travelling to Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona next year. They will be in 8th grade. I would like to get them linked up with some kids who live in these cities so they can discuss what it will be like.

Looking for history textbooks from OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD that will help 9th grade students compare point of view between how different parts of the world "tell the story" of world history with our U.S. version of that story---does anyone have suggestions for resources? Thanks.
    • Mrs. Jeliazkova - Dear Mrs. McGee, what do you mean from OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD? If they are German history textbooks THEY WILL BE WRITTEN IN GERMAN. If they are Russian history textbooks THEY WILL BE WRITTEN IN RUSSIAN. Can you students be able to read them? I DO NOT recommend weak translations into English. :-)

      • Mr. Pieters - You would be better off posting a particular historic event and inviting students worldwide to express their understanding of that event. You as a teacher could than support your students learning by providing further understanding of the different points of view.
