My third grade team is looking for something that asks students to read and respond to Common Core passages on the computer. Something similar to the SBAC/CAASP so that students can practice the skills that they will need for the test. We have workbooks that are similar to the type of questions on the test, but students struggled to transfer the skills of doing the problems in the book to the computer. Any ideas?

Since the introduction of special education, it has become America’s forgotten genre of education. There are more “specific learning” special needs students than any other disability. Other Health Impairment (OHI) is a close second. With the reinvention of general education and integration of technology, what are the new roles of special education teachers? What is the function of the resource classroom? A familiar statement from my administrators is ‘resource teachers should do what the general education teachers are doing just at a slower rate.’ Personally, I never had a clear understanding of what that actually meant. Please share how your school or school district is utilizing the special education teacher (inclusion, resource, or a combination). What are the expectations of the special education teachers? Can special education teachers function as a 21st century teacher?

I am starting a 1 to 1 initiative at my high school next year. I am currently in the planning stage and would welcome any comments, suggestions, etc. Each student is getting a tablet. Thanks!
    • Mr. Salvucci - Mr. Whatley,
My class is 1 to 1 with iPads this year, we had been the same with iPods for a number of years. We are transitioning to a BYOD district so classes that do not have dedicated devices can still be close to 1:1.
I have found that it is best to use apps and tools that work across most if not all platforms. That allows students to complete assignments or work on tasks even if they do not have their school devices.

    • Mr. Whatley - Thanks for the information.
