    • Mrs. Alvarez - There are a lot of really good ones out there. I use them as extra credit for my Middle School gifted/talented classes. I have many of them posted in the Arcade area of my website - giftedcelestia.com - Located in the "Space Station" area on the homescreen.

Dear Filament, Kids love Cell command, but appear to be confused by both the Risosome and Mitochondria levels. The embedded tutorial doesn't appear to be enough to clarify. Can you please give me a quick and easy explanation of what students are to do at those levels or advise re where I can locate additional documentation to guide them in its use so I can still use it with students. Thanks in advance for your prompt response, Regards

    Hi,

    1. We have subscribed through edmodo apps to cell command, but students are having a bit of trouble navigating the interface. Do have additional documentation, tutorials, etc, (besides what's embedded in game?

    2. Also, I have one student in the class who is for some reason being given access only to a "demo" version of the game rather than the full version. Can you please advise re what we should do for her account?

(I can send you username particulars offline if necessary.

Thanks in advance for your prompt response.

    Regards,

    Raphael

    CALLING ALL BEGINNING TEACHERS!!!!!!!!

I created this group called Beginning Teachers. It is aimed as a platform for beginning teachers to help each other out, chat to each other and swap resources.

Please feel free to invite other beginning teachers (approximately 0-5 years experience.) We currently have members of the group with 6 and 7 years experience, so we are not very strict on experience! Also if you have twitter/other social networks, feel free to pass on the message. The more, the merrier!!

I thought it would be a good platform to help each other out. The Join URL is:

Pedagogical Pain Points!!! What are yours?

What topic plagues you year after year? The topic that students consistently have trouble understanding, find excruciatingly boring, or simply can’t relate to. You try different methods, but every year it’s the same old struggle. You can’t drop it because it’s foundational to the field or it’s mandated by state standards. Anyone who has ever taught knows these “Pedagogical Pain Points.”

Filament Games wants to turn your Pedagogical Pain Points into Pedagogical Victories by developing educational video games that help you teach those topics that are foundational to your field or are consistently difficult for your students to grasp. But we need your input! We’ve put together a short survey to gather information about the top PPPs of K-12 teachers. We’ll use this information to inform the design and development of our next set of games. It should take less than 15 minutes to complete.

In this game, the player takes the helm of a command center of a "cell ship," working with crew members at their cellular stations. As the player embarks on different missions, they'll assist crew members with their duties based on whatever cellular crises emerge. Along the way, crew members will increase their stats and earn station perks. The player will initially start the game as a lowly crew member, working on a single station and improving their own station skills. Completing missions will earn cell credits, allowing players to upgrade their cell ship, their own commander skills or the skills of their crew. By completing all missions the player will unlock Exploration mode and win the game. And along the way, students learn key concepts in cell biology!
