Get your students ready for the big test!!!
Help your class get pumped up about taking the test by watching one of our now two Macklemore Parodies.

I have students who want to take the smarter balance practice on their kindle, is that possible since they are having difficulty grtting on. Thank you for your help.
    • John Escaleira - Mr. Garcia is your state taking the PARCC assessment? Only iPads with separate keyboards are allowed for the PARCC assessment that we are field testing this week.

    • Mrs. Henley - It requires Google Chrome as a browser. Amazon is very picky about what can and can't be loaded on a kindle. While sideloading is possible, I'm not sure that is something you'd want to take on.

Any suggestions for an online test generator? Any suggestions are welcome!
    • Mr. Horsey - I have used star quiz for a number of year now and find it really effective. http://www.cosmicsoft.net
You can give local tests over the network, or put them on the internet. It is $40 for a single user for the software to make the quiz and the client for answering is free, or it can be done in a web browser. There is a demo version on the site. Give you lots of stats too, as well as allowing longer answer questions that are marked separately.

      • Mrs. Stephanie (Bernier-Kawash) - Oh yes, and another one, but it requires a paid subscription to which I use is called YacaPaca - http://www.yacapaca.com. You can use already created assessments in many different subject areas or create your own. It's very effective, has a lot of analysis tools and my students enjoy using it as they get their results immediately.

    Hello, All!

I'm in urgent need of help!
I have been using Edmodo and all its features with great success, BUT now we have transitioned to Google Chromebooks. Students are able to open documents, but as they edit them, many get error messages, "Whoops, that wasn't supposed to happen," and they are also reporting that when they hit spacebar, they sometimes lose all their work, and the undo button is not fixing the problem.

PLEASE help with any tips for how to make this transition to Chrome as seamless as possible. Any suggestions regarding how to post docs in the best formit for them to edit and submit.

      • Ms. Carpenter - In Edmodo, I create an assignment with a due date. Have students upload their document from their google drive. Currently, the doc is saved as a gdoc which Edmodo cannot open. So I also have students share the doc with me in Drive and then we can all edit, etc.
This is a work around. I have personally spoken with engineering to try to resolve this issue - but please email them and ask what they suggest.

      • Mrs. McGinnis - Thanks, everyone! The trouble is that my students were not issued Google accounts by our district, so they don't have access to Google Drive. They will soon, but I need to work around it in the meantime. Now over half of the kids have created their own. I've found that if I load the doc into Curriculet, I can have them answer questions about it. If they need to write a composition, I guess the ones without Google can just type it directly into the text box as a message to me. I've tried walking everyone through setting up Google accounts, but when done on Chromebooks, more...

      • Mr. Cerros - Hello, we need some help grading short answer questions, do you know of any program or app out there that could identify key words or phrases on short answer responses of at least 300 characters?
(I know neither flubaroo (only grades one-word answers) or edmodo quizzes do this)
I know I can do up to 140 characters using my student response system (Qwizdom) but wanted to know if there was anything else out there, more type efficient and with at least 300 characters. Thanks!

    • Ms. Palmer - Help - our computer students will most likely have no teacher for the rest of the year. Can you suggest any (free) sites where middle school students can learn independently? We will have rotating subs who generally do not know technology. Any suggestions welcome.

I was thinking it would be cool if there was a program that he could plug his data in, and it graphically show the bar graphs growing, and put a sound track to it. Hate to ask, but our computer teacher is going to be out for a couple of weeks and our poor students are going to be split into other classrooms to do worksheet-type activities. Does anyone have any material to support computer education for middle school students?

Good Morning. I am looking for a lesson on using search engines. We have used search engines in class and students are getting more familiar with them, but I would like to have a structured lesson that would make it easier for my students to find the information that they are looking for in a shorter amount of time. Thank You
