New blog post from The Divergent Educator
"Divergent Problems + Divergent Processes = Divergent Solutions Part 4: Provide "It" and Get Out of the Way!"
This post discusses four essential things that must be provided in order to successfully integrate tech into your district, school, or classroom. Examples how The Divergent Educator has accomplished each are provided. As always, she calls for new ideas to be shared as well. Enjoy!

Announcing Khan Academy's new learning dashboard for the Common Core.

Standards-aligned skills practice, real-time data, personalized learning for all students.
    • Mr. Jones - Must say that I tried the new dashboard last night and was mildly disappointed. It didn't quite seem ready for roll out. I have extensively used the traditional Khan Academy dashboard as a coach and the new CC just isn't at that same standard in terms of ease of use, etc.

    • Mrs. Jones - I agree! It was hard for me to find what I needed.

I am very thankful for the Khan Academy Common Core Map, and have migrated much of the information there into my own scope and sequence documents. Is there a way to subscribe to changes to that map? I would like to know when new skills are added that map to particular CCSSs. I subscribe to the official YouTube channel and follow the other social network feeds, but wonder if changes to the CC Map are posted there. Any ideas are appreciated!

I am really frustraded. I had students go to khanacademy.org to register for an account. They clicked on sign up by email and it enrolled them as teachers not students. I waited 10 days for them to delete their accounts and try again. THE SITE IS VERY CONFUSING! First question should be are you a teacher or a student then sign up by ... HHHHHHEEEEELLLLLPPPPP
    • Mrs. Nason - I can not create accounts for them because I need an email address for them. They cannot use their school 365 email because the filter blocks external emails. The have to use their private email addresses. I just want to monitor their progress.

      • Ms. Muhammad - They do not need email addresses. There is a link at the bottom that says "Create account without email address"

        • Feb 14, 2014
      • Mr. Nelson - Ms Muhammad is right, an email isn't required for the students, but one is needed for their parents. You also need to have the students date of birth ready.
It's worth the initial hassle; the programme is truly fantastic once you get things underway.
        Cheers
        Tim

      • Mr. Isaak - Is there a way to get to the videos and academy in edmodo?

        • Feb 13, 2014
      • Mr. Salvucci - Steve,
Yes, you can embed the videos into Edmodo, but first I go to Khan Academy to get them. I store the embedded videos and/or the links to the videos in my library for easy access.

      • Mr. Cole - Just seeing if any secondary math teachers now use Khan Academy as their primary source of direct instruction? If so, how is it working?

More importantly, how are you communicating student learning and/or progress with parents? How is your gradebook set up? Any information is helpful.

        • Feb 12, 2014
    • Mrs. Youngman - You might try looking for some Idaho teachers, as there are several districts that are part of KA's pilot grant.

      • Mr. Goodelle - I just started to use it to illustrate concepts we're working on. Unfortunately too many of my students don't have working computer, computers, or internet access so flipping my class is impossible.

      • Ms. Waite - I have a few students who find the videos helpful to understand class topics. I never seem to have time to set up the classes.

We're working on a video to introduce new teachers to Khan Academy. If you're a teacher who is considering using Khan Academy in your class, we'd love to hear what you think. The video is still a draft and a bit less than a minute long. Thanks so much for your help!
