Latin Scansion for iOS has just been updated with a huge amount of content. The entire AP selection of Vergil lines are now included in the app. There's an attached video showing the interface and how it works but one of the great features for teachers is that fact that you can select exactly which line to start on which is perfect for class review (especially if you have an AppleTV for mirroring.)

Enjoy and, as always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

We have just launched a new Kickstarter which not only aims to create a collection of high quality situated images representing a collection of beginning Latin vocabulary words but also to move the Classics as a whole forward when it comes to representing how diverse the Roman empire actually was.

We'd love to have your support and please spread the link in order to make this become a reality.

Here's another great post from South Carolina about how Operation LAPIS is transforming Latin instruction at Dent Middle School!

It's nice when an administrator notices the collaboration, tech integration, and free use of the target language (Latin) that Operation LAPIS promotes. It's extra special when the principal takes the time to write about it in the local paper. Kudos to Klara Sands for creating such a great environment for her students at Wayland Middle School in MA.

"This relationship between environment-learner-content interaction and transfer puts teachers in the unique position to capitalize on game engagement to promote reflection that positively shapes how students tackle real-world challenges. "

In case you missed it, here is a great article from our friends at Mindshift. Daniel Pink, on game-based learning, says, "Games have the potential to make math more relevant or engaging, Pink said, but if they lead to standardized thinking about getting to the one right answer, that can be problematic. It’s the carrot and stick thinking vestigial of a bygone era. If the only aim of a game is for points and badges, the game has little benefit for the player. For a game to be compelling and a good source of learning, it should be capable of providing rapid, robust, regular, and meaningful feedback."

This is something with which we are in total agreement. Badges and points aren't what makes games (loosely defined) great. It's the continuous formative embedded assessment and feedback that keeps us striving for more.

When we first launched CARD-tamen™ in 2010, we had to set the price higher than we would have liked because of many different factors related to production of the decks. With the new year, we're excited to announce that we are able to permanently reduce the price for all current versions of CARD-tamen™ -- now 40% off -- to $15 per deck.

We invite you to explore the rules and controversiae for each of the versions available for purchase on the new practomime.com.

If you are a fan of the classical world, now is the time to pick up either the Greece or Rome decks. For those in interested in a quality (and straightforward) approach to game-based learning in STEM, be sure to take a look at our Life Science version as well.
