    Dear Edmodo Community,

I'd like to share our background story about Dabble and George Weiss the creator. At 84-years-old, George Weiss was a man of many ideas, few of which have made it out of his basement. But that changed with Dabble. "The idea for Dabble just came to him three years ago and he started cutting up plastic tiles and creating a five-tiered rack for them to rest on. The beauty of Dabble lies in its simplicity he said. Each player gets 20 letters and has five minutes to create a word of two, three, four, five or six letters.

While Weiss claims the idea for Dabble just came to him one day, the truth is that it is the product of years of dedication to his hobby of invention. Ever since graduating from East New York Vocational High School (specializing in machine shop), George has spent more than 40 hours a week in his cramped Brooklyn basement amid drills, saws, t-squares and graph paper. "I guess some people think I'm crazy for spending so much time down here, but this is what I enjoy doing," said George, sitting in front of an ironing board full of past creations. "I just can't give it up. It's not an addiction, but what am I supposed to do, watch TV all day?"

The success of Dabble is particularly important to George as it was the last invention his wife of 61 years, Faye, was able to see before going to a care facility due to Alzheimer's disease. But he does have some advice for aspiring inventors. "As long as you're passionate about what you're doing, never give up," he says.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Review by Sherry Y. Artemenko M.A., C.C.C. Speech Language Pathologist

A simple "fast thinking word game," "Dabble," entertains the whole family. Each player is given 20 word tiles and a graduated bleacher on which to place a word of two, three, four, five and six letters in just five minutes.

Play may take several rounds to get it, or in my case, an especially adept word master friend got it on the first try! The winner earns points from the value of the tiles used to make words.

This is a game that can be enjoyed at many levels--competitive adults, families, younger kids and even teams.

Lots of conversation ensued explaining strategy. One mom suggested her kids start with the longest word. A student was methodical in grouping vowels along the center and lining up common beginning and ending consonants to draw his words from.

If you're building vocabulary, language. literacy and thinking skills, "Dabble" makes learning fun!

    NOT iPad friendly!
    • INI, LLC - Hello Ms Daniels! Thanks for checking out Dabble and sorry to hear you're having an issue.
Can you elaborate on the issue you're having with it on the iPad? There are two ways you can play it. Method 1 is inside of Edmodo's iPad app, where it does run more slowly but should certainly be functional.
Method 2 involves logging into the Edmodo website with your iPad's normal web browser, and launching it the same way you would from the desktop. This method runs much more smoothly. This is due to a limitation with the way iOS7 lets apps embed

"I just recently bought this game for our family game night. I have elementary school aged children who love to play games. This game delivers what it promises. The instructions are easy, it is fast paced and I have seen an improvement in my children's spelling abilities already. Love it! We also played with our neighbors for a get together and had a lot of fun playing it. The best thing about the game is that it is fun for all ages. If you are a Scrabble or Bananagrams lover, you have to give this a try!"
    Amazon.com review

"My family and I love this game! I stared out with the Android version, and when I showed it to my wife and kids I could hardly get my phone back from them. We immediately ordered the board game version. If you geek out over word-games, like me, you will definitely love Dabble. I believe it is destined to become as popular as that 'other' word game with a similar sounding name!"
