The SC Bar Law Related Education Division is proud to announce that Middle School and High School Mock Trial returns for yet another wonderful year and we are excited to open the registration for competition! We invite public, private, and home schools throughout the state to participate in the 2015 / 2016 Mock Trial Competition Season.

The goals of this program are to educate students about the American judicial system and the fundamentals of litigation. Another objective is to increase cooperation, respect and support between the community and the legal profession. Through participation in the Mock Trial program students will sharpen their basic skills such as listening, public speaking, writing, reading, and analyzing. The goal of the Mock Trial program is not to win for the sake of winning, but to learn and practice the meaning of good citizenship in a democracy through participation in our legal system. All students who participate in the Mock Trial Competition are winners.

This is a fun and exciting program for students and teachers alike. The SC Bar will help find an attorney in your community to assist you in your preparation.

    2015 Mock Trial Skills Workshop

For Mock Trial Students and Coaches– New and Experienced

Saturday, October 3 - Columbia, SC

Register Now! Accepting registration on a first come, first serve basis!

The South Carolina Bar’s Law Related Education Division is sponsoring a Mock Trial Skills Workshop, Saturday, October 3, 2015, for middle and high school students. This year’s workshop includes general sessions for all students and breakout specific sessions. Students will have an opportunity to work with affidavits; role play; analyze video segments; examine rules of evidence; learning courtroom layout and etiquette, making and handling objections; review openings, closings, directs and crosses; and get Mock Trial tips. Most importantly, students will gain Mock Trial experience and skills in a fun learning environment.

Coaches will be able to accompany their students throughout the day.

Students attending the workshop are required to be chaperoned by a Mock Trial teacher coach and/or attorney coach approved by school administration. School delegations should abide by the chaperone ratios required by their school district. Middle school students wanting to attend the workshop not connected with a school delegation must be chaperoned by a parent throughout the day. There is a maximum of 12 students per school, unless additional space is available after the deadline. No walk-ins will be accepted. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. A waiting list will be in place once capacity is reached. Failure to meet deadlines will subject a school’s participants to be disqualified from attending due to the demand and limited space.

The workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A catered lunch and training materials will be provided. All attendees will receive certificates with the noted hours of attendance. Mock trial items will be available for on-site cash and check purchases only. All registration fees are non-refundable.
