Common Sense Lessons have been a great resource for me in my first two years teaching and have been adopted by other schools in our district. We are a one to one chromebook school district, so every child in grades 7-12 has their own school supplied device. By implementing these lessons, we are hoping to educate all of our students to be safe online and use these tools appropriately... One of the really creative ideas that has come from this new class is that students now create their own Digital Citizenship PSA's, so we were able to blend movie-making technology and Digital Citizenship and have the students create something really awesome to then share with the community.

Common Sense Media is my first stop when creating meaningful digital citizenship lessons for students. I have especially liked using the Nearpod lessons to teach a few digital citizen skills this year.

I use Common Sense when finding resources. I appreciate the ratings and reviews. I especially like the "learning ratings". I also like that I can find resources by age appropriateness.

I am preparing to become a Common Sense Media Certified Educator. I plan to wrap up my school year with these lessons in order to prepare my eighth graders for their high school experience (we only have 19 days left). If all goes well, these lessons will become a permanent part of my curriculum. Thank you Common Sense Media for making these lessons available free of charge. I can't wait to get started.

I taught a unit to a group of 8th graders. I chose the middle school Unit 3 because I really like the look of the first lesson, "Trillion Dollar Footprint". The lesson was great and the students got engaged even though at this time of the year they tend to be a little "checked out". All of the lessons were great topics to me, however, the students struggled with the high-quality sites checklist. I wish I would have paired this with research they actually had to do in one of their other classes. The videos and supplements were well-developed, the only hiccup was that the mash-up site, http://www.masher.com, for the last lesson is no longer free and I couldn't find a substitute. I thought this would be a dynamic way to end the unit and it just didn't happen. Overall, I am very pleased with the curriculum and look forward to putting the whole program to use next year.

This has been our first year implementing Common Sense Media at our school. All K-8 teachers were required to teach their classes a minimum of 3 hours and 45min of content. The feedback from our students and teachers has been so positive. The students in grades 3-8 throughly enjoyed the digital interactives, and the younger grades were very engaged with the K-12 online curriculum. All the material on the Common Sense website is so thorough and nicely put together. Thank you for offering such a great curriculum, that will benefit our students lives on a daily basis.
One of my favorite discussions was after my students played the "Twalkers" interactive, they were expressing how hard it was to do two things at once, just as in the same way as talking on the phone and driving, is a difficult task and shouldn't be done simultaneously. These games really made them understand the task at hand!!
We look forward to next year with this new integration into our curriculum.

Have you thought about how you can continue to utilize the curriculum each year, keeping it fresh?

I have enjoyed implementing the Common Sense Media curriculum into our library media center! I am wondering how I can incorporate Makerspaces into my digital citizenship curriculum for elementary school students?

This has been our second year of integrating the Common Sense Media curriculum into our lessons at CIS, Bangalore. Over the year, we have been able to identify units from the curriculum to match grade levels all the way from kindergarten to IB. It has been quite an exciting year with the various conversations that have come up as a result of this. My favourite includes a conversation amongst teachers about how teaching the effective use of the internet is something that now needs to be done more formally.
This year, we combined some of our Coffee with the Counsellor mornings with Connecting Families sessions, resulting in fantastic conversations on topics including Managing Screen Time and Photo Sharing. It's always fun to walk around campus and see board work with scribbles and art on creating a good password or being an upstanding student.
What worked particularly well this year, was that we had a plan as a school. Given our technology program, we wanted to ensure that every student was introduced to the themes of digital citizenship some time during the academic year. We wanted the kids to see the relevance of it in their daily use of technology. With the success of the program this year, we will definitely continue to integrate the curriculum. Some changes that we may make along the way are that we may choose to deliver the curriculum earlier in the year so as to ensure some familiarity with the themes, as the kids work through the rest of the academic year. Maybe even combine this with Learner Profile Week and celebrate Digital Citizenship.
