About Ms. Katie Harvey

I've been teaching 6th grade math for seven years, dabbling with Social Studies and Algebra along the way. I've work with Character Ed, Implementing IB- MYP programs, School Community activities and student government. I have my BA in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Math and Social Studies from John Carroll University outside of Cleveland, OH. I taught 3 years a Piedmont IB Middle School in Charlotte, NC. (CMS) I moved to New York City to teach for Uncommon Schools at Kings Collegiate Charter School in the Brownsville, East Flatbush neighborhoods of Brooklyn and complete the TeacherU Hunter College (Relay) Masters in Education. I quit my job before reaching what I believe was the point of burnout. I have returned to my hometown of Pittsburgh for some much needed r&r. I worked part time for CFY as a Math- Digital Learning Consultant, and spent the last two months in North Carolina, Europe and New York. I am taking the free time to get more in-tune with more technology and research involved in teaching, get on twitter (Not that I really tweet anything) and learn about things I've missed out on being trapped in the classroom for 7 years. I'm exploring other options that allow me travel and continue on my adventure to connect with great educators all over the globe. I am aways up for a good conversation about education or life. But I'm not really one to pick a fight... I've attended both public and private schools, worked in both public and charter. I love meeting with, talking to, sharing with, smart, strong, friendly, hardworking people that share a passion for education.
