About Dr. Brandi Maynard
I am originally from Chattaroy Washington, a small town north of Spokane. I dreamed of being a teacher since I was 7 years old and was invited to teach in a one room schoolhouse at in a small museum near my home. I grew up and left for college in 1991 to pursue my dream. I was the first one in my family to go to college, specialized in gifted and talented education in my masters program from Whitworth University and a Ph.D from Gonzaga University in Leadership. I love learning.
My husband and I married in 1999 and have 2 darling little boys (see picture above). My husband and I enjoy riding dirt bikes through the Palouse wheat fields in the summer and anything that has to do with water. In the colder months I love to sled, and snuggle up with a good family movie and a bowl of popcorn. I am also known to love what nature has to offer and get front row seats to meteor showers and thunderstorms, but I have yet to see the northern lights.
I have been teaching with the Idaho Virtual Academy since the doors opened in 2002. Before that I spent the first 6 years of my career in a K-5 gifted and talented program serving students in five elementary schools across the Cheney School District. I bring experience, out of the box thinking, and a wide variety of experiences to this position and am looking forward to working with each and every one of you.
As an educational consultant I work with professors, administrators, teachers, and parents in educating the 21st century student. Specialty areas include technology integration, rural education, distance learning, online gifted programming, brain-based teaching/learning methods, and proven strategies for teaching/parenting gifted students.
