About Janet Gates
My entire professional career had been in education. My primary focus has been educational technology serving in a variety of positions as a technology teacher/educator, technology consultant, technology curriculum coordinator and trainer.
I started my career as a teacher, team leader and administrator. I was instrumental in developing the schools mission statement, goals and organized professional development and training for new programs. I wrote grants to develop a highly successful after school program for at risk students and families.
I spent two years with the J.A. Kathryn Albertson Foundation serving as their Education Technology Specialist. This involved setting up technology education conferences and training teachers how to integrate technology into curricula and how to implement project- based learning in the classroom.
I stepped outside the classroom and worked for Pinnacle Systems as an Educational Executive where I developed a K-12 video editing curriculum and trained school district personnel how to implement the use of video in the classroom. In addition, I provided video editing training throughout the U.S. and presented at state and national technology conferences.
In 2011, I spent a month in Ecuador volunteering for Partners of the Americas training for Ecuadorian high school teachers and administrators. I developed a Writing to Learn curricula to equip teachers with new techniques to teach English.
I currently serve the Meridian School District as one of their Education Technology Specialists. This requires onsite support for 51 schools where I develop and provide training to district staff in the use of hardware, software, instructional methods and management techniques. I also teach several classes after school for teachers to further their education and earn college credit.
In my free time I am an avid biker, snow skier, hiker, traveler and a enjoy experimenting in the kitchen preparing new foods. Most importantly, I am the grandmother to three of the most fabulous grandkids imaginable.
