Over Elizabeth Jones

I recently finished my 42nd year of teaching. When folks ask me why don't I retire, I simply say it is because I still enjoy teaching and learning. This is my 3rd year as principal of one of six new magnet schools in our district with a focus on STEM and STEAM (includes arts). My staff teaches using project-based learning from Buck Institute for Education and integrative STEM curriculum using Engineering by Design and Engineering is Elementary.

I have had some truly awesome experiences working in various leadership and professional development capacities for Michigan State University and the Lansing Public School District. Six years ago, I returned to the classroom and taught engineering and mathematics at Lansing STEM Academy. We used a nationally recognized curriculum from Project Lead the Way, Gateway to Technology. I am certified to teach secondary mathematics, which is another area that I am passionate about. As a 2011 Siemens STEM Institute Fellow, I've gained new insights towards integrating online resources and technology into student projects and learning experiences.
