About Mr. Alfred Solis

Alfred Solis went to college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he graduated with Honors in Mechanical Engineering. Alfred then chose a career with Andersen Consulting, currently Accenture, doing business/internet consulting and later joined a Bay Area Venture Fund, CreateLabs.

After the Fall of 2001, Alfred changed his career to embark on his greatest challenge of teaching students Math & Physics at High Tech High (HTH) in San Diego. He used his industry experience to help him do Project Based Learning (PBL) in the classroom (See alfredsolis.com). Alfred transitioned to Professional Development & Dissemination for HTH, while introducing PBL to after school programs for Beyond The Bell Branch (BTBB) of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Alfred's classroom has been visited by Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and numerous international dignitaries in the field of educational reform. He currently serves on the board for Education, Excellence & Equity. On the side, Alfred co-created and co-produced the Broadway musical, STANDBY, for the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2013 (See standbythemusical.com).

At BIE, Alfred is currently responsible for developing and identifying education technologies and online resources to support and advance the PBL experience (See bie.org & pblu.org). He also specializes in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for BIE.
