About Chef Marquis

I just finished my 5th year teaching Culinary Arts in high school. I went through a Career Switcher program after working as a chef for 15 years. I am currently investigating using social media to increase engagement (with edmodo) and fully integrate standards based learning into my gradebook. This last school year the school board approved for me to add a class and teach through my planning period. I had 160 students last year, which for a vocational program is a substantial number. My program features four 36 week levels from Introduction to Culinary Arts to the self-study Culinary IV where the student serves as a sous chef with an emphasis on leadership and human resources and the curriculum is tailored to their individual interests. My classes are as student run as possible and the overall program is known as Louisa Culinary. We are on twitter: http://www.twitter.com/louisaculinary and facebook: http://www.facebook.com/people/Louisa-Culinary/100002188077779 . We have a page on our school website: http://moourl.com/chefspage Our cafe is also on foursquare: https://foursquare.com/venue/9630534 This last semester we focused on building a student community around our facebook page and I posted and tagged my students final projects allowing them to share it with their friends. Next year I plan on utilizing this even more, possibly as status-related recognition/rewards. I have started an edu-blog about my class, mostly: http://cheflincoln.wordpress.com/
