I have been teaching and coaching at Decatur High School in Decatur, Arkansas, for 16 years. Prior to that, I taught at Lincoln Consolidated Schools, in Lincoln, Ark., and Alluwe High School, in northeast Oklahoma.
I am a former editor for the Benton County Daily Record and Community Publishers, Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., (the home of Wal-Mart), and a former editor/photographer for the Tahlequah Daily Press, in Tahlequah, Okla., (the home of the Cherokee Nation). I have also worked as a professional freelance/wedding photographer, a surveillance photographer/videographer, a part-time musician, a mechanic, a carpenter, and a cook - and all of these things helped prepare me to be a teacher.
I have a Master's in Communications and a Bachelor's in Journalism Education from Northeastern State University and I am a certified secondary principal in two states. I am also certified to coach soccer and track and field and I began the soccer program at Decatur High School and coached both, boys and girls, varsity teams for seven years - taking three teams to state tournaments.
My wife, Laura, runs a homeless shelter for Cherokee County, Okla., and a consortium of area churches (The Hope House of Cherokee County) and we have raised three girls on a small ranch. The youngest, Taelor, is 16 now and raises show rabbits.
I have been teaching AP English Literature and Comp., and AP Language and Comp., for 16 years. I have been an AP Reader for the past seven years and I have been conducting a continuous long-distance learning project between my AP classes at Decatur High School, in Arkansas, and the AP classes taught by Mrs Rachel Stokes at the Greenville Senior High Academy, in Greenville, South Carolina, for the past five years.
It is because of this continuous, long-distance project that Mrs. Stokes and I were selected to present at Edmodocon 2014, as-well-as several other conferences, and why we have become great supporters of Edmodo.
