How do I become part of my school's subdomain? I have the code, but I am not sure where I enter it...
    • Ms. Andresen - You need to go to their subdomain address, instead of http://www.edmodo.com. For example, sdj.edmodo.com. It's whatever the District Admin chose to set it up as. When a teacher logins in for the first time through this subdomain address, it will prompt them for the code.

    • Mr. Booker - Another easy way to get to your Assignments is to click on 'Progress', next to the Planner at the top left, then choose the group (class) that did the assignment.
It will take you to a page that has all the grades. When you create an assignment, it will make a column to grade it (you may not actually grade it in Edmodo, but the option is there).
Then, if you click on the name of the assignment at the top, you get an option to 'View Assignment' (it takes you to the assignment page), and then you start to select each student.

What's the Twitter hashtag for Edmodocon 2013 this year.

I am new to Edmodo. I have a year four and five class in Australia and my students are all signed up and are enthralled with the process. Can anyone lead me to where I may get guides to how other teachers use Edmodo? I have students talking to each other for hours on end. At this early exploratory stage I don't mind but wonder what limits/rules other teachers may have for their classes use.
    • Mr. McAsh - Welcome to Edmodo. The Edmodo blog http://blog.edmodo.com has examples of how various teachers are using Edmodo.

      • Mr. Thompson - 1. I second Mr. Mc'Ash's blog recommendation.
        2. Click Account/Help then start browsing and reading
        3. Sounds like punishment, but occasionally reading the Support Community wall is extra helpful
        4. Read Bianca Hewes (a fellow Aussie)

      • Mrs. Carrie - Great! Many thanks.

      • Marithe Benavente - One thing is for sure: you don't want the kids to get in trouble for saying foolish things in the wee hours of the morning. Go to the right side of the browser to Group Settings. Click on advance options; there, choose "moderate all posts and replies". That should solve your problem with students using edmodo as if they were on facebook. I would also make essential agreements with them about what it is correct behavior.

      • Ms. Symes - This year I set my groups to "no talking" to begin. They didn't even really know it was an option. When I turned it on the 2nd half of the semester, I can barely find my assignments for all the chatter. I learned that I like the "no talking" rule.
To introduce Edmodo, I would give them an easy assignment, demonstrate how to go to the website, document, whatever I attached and what proper computer etiquette (at least in my room) was to be. Their first foray was to create an avatar which had to look like them using

      • Mr. McAsh - I created a Gooru Collection about Edmodo (in support of a Poster Session I did at a conference). This link should work (Gooru is being re-vamped): http://www.goorulearning.org/classic/index.g#...

        • May 31, 2013
      • Ms. Pevler - I have had a class that loved to "talk" on Edmodo. I created a small group and added the whole class for their chatter. That left the home screen for assignments, questions, and messages from me. Granted i work with high schoolers so the new factor wore out quick, but it works great for my cousin who teaches 4th grade.

      • Mrs. Carrie - That is a great idea. I am getting many ideas from your contact. I know once the initial excitement wears off it will settle down. I have made me the moderator for now and will have a talk about protocols back at school.

      • Mr. Villegas - Hi Jane! I'm so happy to hear that you are exploring Edmodo. A quick solution to your problem may be to use the filter option. I've attached a link to a Youtube video that I created showing how to use the filter option on Edmodo. I hope this is helpful!

I teach world civilizations and language arts to middle school students in small town Illinois and I am interested in finding "pen pals" for my students next year from the countries of the areas of the world that we study. Anyone know how I can go about setting that up. I would have liked to do it this year but didn't think of it till too late since our school year only has 6 more days!
    • Ms. Zamora - Yes, my class and I used http://www.epals.com this year to connect with epals in India and Australia. It is a wonderful site because it is safe and controlled. You can choose the country, ages, even communication type such as email or skype.

As I am preparing to teach summer training PDs for teachers from different districts, I have revised this video that I created last summer in order that it would not be exclusive to my school system's domain name:

    "What? Why? & How Edmodo?"

I was wondering if there was a feature in Edmodo which would allow us to access the students backpacks to check thier work? I use a dropbox for student notes, then they upload them to their backpacks. I'd also like to see a feature that would put teachers in control of the messages sent student to student.
    • Mrs. Stauffenecker - Students should not be able to send messages to each other. They can post to the group page, and they can send messages to their teacher, but they should not be able to send messages to each other.

      • Mrs. Becker - They tell me they can....I'll look into it further. Thank you for your response.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Mrs. Stauffenecker - I just had two students try and the only person they could direct message was their teachers.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Steve Woods - It's possible that they are using a separate service to message each other. I've verified that a student cannot type in a person to direct message - they simply have a drop-down list, which has their Edmodo Groups (as a whole) and individual teachers.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Ms. Felton - When we began using Edmodo I allowed the students to post to each other for a class period just to get the hang of it. At the end of the period I made sure all students were set to a read only status. Thay can not post to each other any longer.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Mr. Ugalde - They can message the group or class... I have my settings setup where I approve each post any student makes before it goes on the group page.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Mr. Hopper - Try showing this to your students. It will help you to watch it as well (I hope).
