I teach world civilizations and language arts to middle school students in small town Illinois and I am interested in finding "pen pals" for my students next year from the countries of the areas of the world that we study. Anyone know how I can go about setting that up. I would have liked to do it this year but didn't think of it till too late since our school year only has 6 more days!
    • Ms. Zamora - Yes, my class and I used http://www.epals.com this year to connect with epals in India and Australia. It is a wonderful site because it is safe and controlled. You can choose the country, ages, even communication type such as email or skype.

As I am preparing to teach summer training PDs for teachers from different districts, I have revised this video that I created last summer in order that it would not be exclusive to my school system's domain name:

    "What? Why? & How Edmodo?"

It has been a while since my training . . . review how I add interested teachers to Edmodo from my school please!
    • Mrs. Vance - On your profile page there's a link to invite teachers. Of course, they can also just go to Edmodo.com & sign up!

I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU, my EDMOD-ian teacher colleagues. You have TRULY provided the BEST PLN (Professional Learning Network) ANY teacher could have!
    • Sandy King - Right back at ya! Thanks Nira!

    • Mrs. Woods - Thanks, I love this Edmodo PLN!

I was wondering if there was a feature in Edmodo which would allow us to access the students backpacks to check thier work? I use a dropbox for student notes, then they upload them to their backpacks. I'd also like to see a feature that would put teachers in control of the messages sent student to student.
    • Mrs. Stauffenecker - Students should not be able to send messages to each other. They can post to the group page, and they can send messages to their teacher, but they should not be able to send messages to each other.

      • Mrs. Becker - They tell me they can....I'll look into it further. Thank you for your response.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Mrs. Stauffenecker - I just had two students try and the only person they could direct message was their teachers.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Steve Woods - It's possible that they are using a separate service to message each other. I've verified that a student cannot type in a person to direct message - they simply have a drop-down list, which has their Edmodo Groups (as a whole) and individual teachers.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Ms. Felton - When we began using Edmodo I allowed the students to post to each other for a class period just to get the hang of it. At the end of the period I made sure all students were set to a read only status. Thay can not post to each other any longer.

        • May 7, 2013
      • Mr. Ugalde - They can message the group or class... I have my settings setup where I approve each post any student makes before it goes on the group page.

        • May 7, 2013
    • Mr. Hopper - Try showing this to your students. It will help you to watch it as well (I hope).

      • Apr 29, 2013
    • Cecilia Monserrat - Me too!

      • Apr 29, 2013

I would like to incorporate Edmodo in my classroom next year. I know the "basics" of Edmodo, but would like more in-depth knowledge. Is there an online course this summer that might fill this need?
    • Ms. Radford - I would love to learn more about Edmodo too!

      • Mrs. Vance - Go to the blog section - there are a number of things available to you there - webinars, etc. You can also search YouTube - any number of video tutorials for different aspects of Edmodo are available there. Tom. Hopper has been making and posting some really great Edmodo tutorials for both teachers and students lately. Also check with the PD folks in your school district to see if they are planning to offer any PD sessions - I usually teach several of those during the summer and during the school year in my district - there are several of us here who do the same.

        • Apr 25, 2013
      • Mrs. Wallace - The webinars helped me get started when I began using Edmodo, particularly 20 Ways to Use Edmodo and the Edmodocon. They are located here: http://help.edmodo.com/teachers/webinars/

        • Apr 25, 2013
      • Mrs. Scott - EdmodoCon 2013 is coming this summer! I got my feet wet at EdmodoCon 2012, and I highly recommend it -- with a huge mug of coffee. Very intense.

        • Apr 26, 2013
      • Mrs. Eaton - You can also view EdmodoCon in reruns if you don't have time to attend for the whole day :)

      • Ms. Zamora - Where is EdmodoCon 2013 ?

        • Apr 26, 2013
      • Mrs. Vance - It's an online conference - really great - look for info in the blog section (click on "blog" at the very bottom of your browser page.

My colleague and I submitted a proposal for EdmodoCon 2013 and we did it together in one submission because we completed the project our proposal is about together. Is that acceptable? We understand that if we get chosen only one may be funded to travel. Please let me know if we should submit separate proposals or our combined proposal is acceptable.

    • Mariana Pagella - Hi! I love your edmodo tutorials. Which screen capture tool do you use to make them? Thanks in advance!

    • Mr. Hopper - Thanks! I have had a blast making them. I use Camtasia 8. You can go to the TechSmith website and download a free 30 day trial. It is the full version. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to use it, or you could send me a message and I would be glad to help.
