Dear Subtext,
I need to know why my students are not seeing the icons and highlighting that I put in. Please let me know what i'm doing wrong. Thanks!

Mrs. Walborn - Thanks for the reply. I thought it would be something simple. That certainly sounds simple.

I'm trying to set up a colleague with Subtext through his Edmodo page, but the "Edmodo Store" icon at the top of the home screen isn't showing up. Any idea why the that icon to access the Edmodo Store wouldn't be there?- May 3, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi - is there any chance your colleague isn't registered with Edmodo as a US teacher and/or s/he hasn't completed their profile and confirmed their teacher status? Edmodo app store access will currently only show up for US teachers and those w/ complete profiles. Let us know if you'd like us to pass your friend to Edmodo support! thanks

I installed the app in my group, but the group is not showing up on my device. Did I miss a step?- Apr 30, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Janice, After installing the app on Edmodo, log into our iPad app with your edmodo username. We see that you own 1 Edmodo group called '8th grade language arts' and another one that is not an Edmodo group called 'LA 2013-2014'. Let us know if that's what you intended to happen.

Ms. Wintermyer - I logged in to the app with my Edmodo, but none of my Edmodo groups showed up. I created the LA 2013-2014 in the app itself, but was trying to use the 8th Language Arts 2012-2013 as my group and didn't see it.
- May 1, 2013
-
Subtext - Yes we see you as the owner of an Edmodo group called '8th Grade Language Arts 2012-2013' and it appears to be an Edmodo group. I'll ask our developer to see what's going on - can you also make sure you are the main owner on Edmodo (not a co-teacher?) Thanks...

Subtext - Hi Janice, OK we checked w/ our developers and they asked if you can refresh your groups (either hit the refresh button or log out and back in). If that doesn't work, can you please try deleting the app and re-installing it from the iTunes App Store. here is the URL: bit.ly/GetSubtext. If that fails, we'll move to their next idea... thanks!

I'm really excited about subtext, but I have students with google chromebooks, not ipads. Is this not possible for us?- Apr 25, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Mrs. Parker- Today only the teacher needs an iPad. You annotate your selected passages and share them to your Edmodo group. The students see them on the web and reply in our Edmodo (web) app.
You can see how that works here: http://www.subtext.com/edmodo/images/launch_d...
We are building a web reader this summer, so soon you'll be able to have close reading experiences together on those Chromebooks! Stay tuned...- Apr 25, 2013

Preparing for a training tomorrow and am wondering if Subtext has support for audio playback to assist the visually impaired? Although, now that I think about it, perhaps an app that is all about people engaging with social and visual interface wouldn't be appropriate for people that can't see. Although, discussion and things could also be read aloud as well as user profile information.- Apr 20, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi - we have a text to speech feature that plays audio back on any section of text. You can turn it on by phrase or for the entire page. The 'on' switch is a small grey arrow in the lower left corner of each book or article. Good luck w/ the training!

Mr. Talmadge - Thanks. We had a chance to try it out during the training...

I'm trying to download a book. I clicked the link for send email buy link, no email ever comes. The other link is not active. How can I get a book?- Apr 17, 2013

Subtext - Hi Mrs. Rogne - one thing we notice is that you have not yet connected a Google account once you are logged into Subtext with Edmodo. A Google account is required if you are going to buy the book from Google... this is how Google knows it's you.

As for the purchase email, what book are you trying to buy and we'll check it out. You can always visit Google Play and buy the book there, then log into Subtext w/ that same gmail address and see the purchased copy ready for you in Subtext. We also allow you to buy from your web shelf at web.subtext.com.
Again, if you like using Edmodo as your primary login for our app, we recommend logging in with that, then adding a Google login - which will merge the 2 accounts into 1. Please let us know if this helps!

I am just getting started with SUBTEXT - if I use EDMODO, do I need the app for each student, or can I upload the lesson to EDMODO? Any help is appreciated! Thank you :)- Apr 16, 2013

Subtext - Hi Mrs. Peska, here's a description of the overall flow: You, the teacher, are the only one who needs an iPad. You would choose your book or article passages in our free iPad app, then share them to an Edmodo group from inside the iPad app. Students would see you stream post on edmodo.com, open the free Edmodo Subtext app, then respond there.

When I go to download the book on my iPad, it says: Your Google account has exceeded its device activation limit, and can't load books at this time?
How do I fix that?- Apr 15, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Mr. Provence - can you please try logging out and in again? We see that you have 1 paid book on your device- the Giver - is that the book that is giving you issues? A log out and login should do it. We also show that you have connected via both Google and Edmodo (probably Edmodo is your main account). so please try logging out and in w/ your Google account this time. Please email us at support@subtext.com if that does not work. thanks!

My students have iPads. They were asked to download the book onto their ipad, but were asked for a google or gmail account. We don't allow our students to download material onto the iPads, so is there another way to share the book without having them download using an outside email account?- Apr 15, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Mrs Huff. In order to get a Google paid or free book, Google needs to know who the person is... Most schools that don't have a Google apps for ed email address will set up a set of school accounts that are used only for login (not for email). You can search for free books marked with the 'Feedbook' logo (or use web articles) without needing a google add'l login. Feel free to email us at support@subtext.com for more help! thanks...

If you buy books from google books in sets (volume purchasing) do they belong to the students? Or is it like a loan, so I can re-issue the book set to another class later? Like I normally would with a an actual paperback set. Thanks!- Apr 15, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Mrs. Rogne, as with most ebooks, once they are bought, they belong to that device, and therefore cannot be re-issued to another class later. We believe a digital library model makes the most sense for the industry long-term. We are about to have a discount for volume purchasing from Google, so stay tuned, if that's something you decide you want to do. There's also a lot of free content available in Subtext. (web articles, public domain books, any ePub). What are you hoping to read?

I have the subtext app on my edmodo page and have linked discussion questions on subtext to my edmodo group, but nothing is showing up in my edmodo feed.- Apr 9, 2013

Karen Finklestein - Ms. Cuneo - just to clarify - you set up discussions using an ipad, right? You must start the discussion on an ipad, but then it should show up in Edmodo.

Ms. Cuneo - Yes, I used my iPad to start the discussion in Subtext. Not all of my students have iPads, so I was trying to link it to my Edmodo group.

Karen Finklestein - Hmmmm - I have done that before and the questions showed up in Edmodo. I haven't used it in a while though.

Subtext - Ms. Cuneo, a couple things to check: are you sure you are sharing to an edmodo group (some teachers go in and accidentally set up a group of the same name in Subtext on iPad...)? If you launch the Subtext Edmodo app, which can be found in your list of apps on Edmodo, and then click Discussions, do you see the discussions show up there? It seems to be working for us. Thanks.

Can the new assignments feature be used with edmodo? My students don't have iPads, but I'd like to use this feature if possible.- Apr 6, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi Shayna, You are thinking ahead, for sure! We just launched Assignments in the iPad app about a week ago, so we're eager to hear what you think. We have not yet integrated it into Edmodo Assignments. You are the first to ask but it's a great idea. We are busy building the web reader - so Edmodo users could read web articles and books on the web, but we'll add this to the list. In the meantime, please email us any feedback to heidi@subtext.com.

STEPS
1: Install Subtext on Edmodo in a group
2: Log into Subtext on iPad with your Edmodo username
3: Share passages and notes with your group on Edmodo.
4: Your class replies in the iPad or Edmodo app.

It sounds like your class has access to iPads and are reading in the app, is that right?
Is it possible you published your notes to Teachers + or a group other than the one your students belong to? To check, just go into the book you shared with them and tap on one of your notes. Beneath the note you made, you should see tabs for each of the groups you shared your note with. Do you see the right Edmodo group there? If not, you'll need to share these notes into the group. You can do this by tapping the green "Share" icon just above your more...
