My Edmodo groups won't load in the Subtext app. I clicked to install Subtext for my Sem. 1 Summer School 2013 and Sem. 2 Summer School 2013 classes. I've tried refreshing both Edmodo and Subtext, as well as un-installing and re-installing both the Edmodo Subtext app and the Subtext app on my iPad. I don't know what else to try, and am becoming extremely frustrated. What am I doing wrong?- May 30, 2013

Ms. Cisar - Yes, at least I think I've linked my accounts. It says "You are connected to Edmodo" under my Subtext settings on my iPad.

Subtext - Hi Sara- sorry for the delay here, we didn't see this until now. We see that you have 2 groups (the ones you mention above) and both are linked to Edmodo. Do you not see them when you log into our iPad app with your Edmodo username? Please send us a screen shot of your My Library screen in Subtext - there should be 2 groups there (only when you log in using your Edmodo username). heidi@subtext.com. thanks for your patience.

Ms. Cisar - Thanks! I must not have been logging in using my Edmodo username because when I logged out and logged back in with Edmodo the groups were there.

Is Subtext only for iPads? Only a few of my students have iPads.- May 28, 2013

Subtext - Hi - Subtext has a free app on both Edmodo and on the iPad. They work together. Right now only a teacher needs an iPad to make notes (passages, prompts, etc) - and they can be shared with students on their computers on Edmodo. Students who do have iPads- can read and reply on them. Students who do NOT have iPads would just read on paper, but reply on Edmodo. Here is a diagram showing which pieces are iPad and which are on the Web. We are building a web reader for Fall, where all of your reading (in free materials) could be done on Edmodo too. http://www.subtext.com/edmodo/images/launch_d... thanks, Heidi

I'm new to using Subtext and have a question about using Subtext with Edmodo for kids who do not have an iPad. I have the app on my iPad and was able to set up an assignment using a free Google book. I assigned it to a class, but when I go into the "test" student account I have using the web version of Edmodo, I don't see the assignment. I'm assuming it would show up as any assignment would in the center of the screen for the group, right? Am I correct that I should be able to use Subtext with my students on Edmodo as long as I, as the teacher, have the iPad app and create the assignments using the app?I'm new to using Subtext and have a question about using Subtext with Edmodo for kids who do not have an iPad. Subtext - Hi Jennifer - thanks for the post. Yes, you are correct that you can use Subtext as the only person who has an iPad in your class. Our assignments feature is not yet integrated with Edmodo's assignments... meaning they don't yet share out to the Edmodo stream in the same way that regular notes do. Please bear with us- we're in the midst of building a lot more great functionality for Edmodo users, including a web reader that will let you and your class read free materials right on the web (no iPads needed!). Stay tuned for that and other new features this Fall.

Mrs. Judkins - So how do my students "use" Subtext through Edmodo if they do not have iPads? Is there a plan to develop an Android app soon?

Subtext - Here are the options:
Subtext - Here are the options:
You have an iPad, Students do not: You install the free Subtext edmodo app in your Edmodo group on Edmodo. You then log into the free Subtext iPad app and annotate passages, add prompts, etc. As long as you share those prompts with your Edmodo class, they will show up as links in the Edmodo stream (for your students to see on the computer). They then respond to these discussions in the Subtext Edmodo app on the web.
No one has iPads: Web reader on Edmodo is coming soon this summer - allows you and your class to read free books and articles from the web (works for chromebooks too)
Soon (fall): Android app is also coming soon, yes.
hope that helps! Our goal with the Edmodo app is to allow close reading and collaborative discussions - even if the kids are still on paper books. And/or to help classrooms that are partially 1:1 to keep the conversations sync'ed across the web and iPads. The teacher still gets the reporting in the iPad app and can manage everything from there, while the students do what they are used to doing, right on Edmodo. Hope that helps!

Mrs. Judkins - Thanks for the response. Very excited about what teachers will be able to do with Subtext and happy to know there will be more platforms supported by the Fall.

As for right now...I was able to create discussion questions using the iPad app (teacher side) and even though I can see that I shared the book/assignment with my group/class and added the Edmodo app to my group/class, when I log into the web version of Edmodo using my "test" student account to see what the kids will see, I'm not seeing anything in my Edmodo Stream. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any thoughts?

Subtext - Hi Jennifer, just a guess here. When you tap 'publish' and pick a group to share with during the note creation process inside the iPad app, are you tapping *both* checkboxes (one next to the group and one that says 'share on edmodo'? that is what makes it show up in the Stream... let me know if you see both checkboxes when you share. Feel free to send me a screen shot of what your pre-shared note looks like at heidi@subtext.com if easier. thanks!

Subtext - Hi Mrs. Walborn,
Subtext - Hi Mrs. Walborn,
It sounds like your class has access to iPads and are reading in the app, is that right?
Is it possible you published your notes to Teachers + or a group other than the one your students belong to? To check, just go into the book you shared with them and tap on one of your notes. Beneath the note you made, you should see tabs for each of the groups you shared your note with. Do you see the right Edmodo group there? If not, you'll need to share these notes into the group. You can do this by tapping the green "Share" icon just above your group tabs. Then just check the box next to the group you want to share the notes with.
I hope this helps!

I'm trying to set up a colleague with Subtext through his Edmodo page, but the "Edmodo Store" icon at the top of the home screen isn't showing up. Any idea why the that icon to access the Edmodo Store wouldn't be there?- May 3, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi - is there any chance your colleague isn't registered with Edmodo as a US teacher and/or s/he hasn't completed their profile and confirmed their teacher status? Edmodo app store access will currently only show up for US teachers and those w/ complete profiles. Let us know if you'd like us to pass your friend to Edmodo support! thanks

Subtext - Hi Janice, After installing the app on Edmodo, log into our iPad app with your edmodo username. We see that you own 1 Edmodo group called '8th grade language arts' and another one that is not an Edmodo group called 'LA 2013-2014'. Let us know if that's what you intended to happen.

Ms. Wintermyer - I logged in to the app with my Edmodo, but none of my Edmodo groups showed up. I created the LA 2013-2014 in the app itself, but was trying to use the 8th Language Arts 2012-2013 as my group and didn't see it.
- May 1, 2013

Subtext - Yes we see you as the owner of an Edmodo group called '8th Grade Language Arts 2012-2013' and it appears to be an Edmodo group. I'll ask our developer to see what's going on - can you also make sure you are the main owner on Edmodo (not a co-teacher?) Thanks...

Subtext - Hi Janice, OK we checked w/ our developers and they asked if you can refresh your groups (either hit the refresh button or log out and back in). If that doesn't work, can you please try deleting the app and re-installing it from the iTunes App Store. here is the URL: bit.ly/GetSubtext. If that fails, we'll move to their next idea... thanks!

I'm really excited about subtext, but I have students with google chromebooks, not ipads. Is this not possible for us?- Apr 25, 2013

Subtext - Hi Mrs. Parker- Today only the teacher needs an iPad. You annotate your selected passages and share them to your Edmodo group. The students see them on the web and reply in our Edmodo (web) app.
You can see how that works here: http://www.subtext.com/edmodo/images/launch_d...

Preparing for a training tomorrow and am wondering if Subtext has support for audio playback to assist the visually impaired? Although, now that I think about it, perhaps an app that is all about people engaging with social and visual interface wouldn't be appropriate for people that can't see. Although, discussion and things could also be read aloud as well as user profile information.- Apr 20, 2013
-
Subtext - Hi - we have a text to speech feature that plays audio back on any section of text. You can turn it on by phrase or for the entire page. The 'on' switch is a small grey arrow in the lower left corner of each book or article. Good luck w/ the training!

Subtext - Hi Mrs. Rogne - one thing we notice is that you have not yet connected a Google account once you are logged into Subtext with Edmodo. A Google account is required if you are going to buy the book from Google... this is how Google knows it's you.

As for the purchase email, what book are you trying to buy and we'll check it out. You can always visit Google Play and buy the book there, then log into Subtext w/ that same gmail address and see the purchased copy ready for you in Subtext. We also allow you to buy from your web shelf at web.subtext.com.
Again, if you like using Edmodo as your primary login for our app, we recommend logging in with that, then adding a Google login - which will merge the 2 accounts into 1. Please let us know if this helps!

You would choose your book or article passages in our free iPad app, then share them to an Edmodo group from inside the iPad app. Students would see you stream post on edmodo.com, open the free Edmodo Subtext app, then respond there.
