Wondering if anyone has lesson plans for using Around the World in 80 Days? I'm looking to get into geography through literacy. Any ideas are welcome.

This link is an interactive map. Students can chart the character's progress, or hypothesize about where they are. You could also debate whether he actually missed a day or not by crossing the international date line. National geographic has some good info on ecosystems, landforms, etc. Hope this helps!

If you haven't used this site for awhile, they have updated and added subjects like Flags of the world, country capitals and world landmarks
(I know most people have seen this, however, I have to post a link for a PD activity to prove I can add a link in a community page)

I am a 9th grade World Geography Teacher in Garland, TX. We are currently learning economic systems. I would love to have my students connect with students from other countries around the world that have different types of economic systems, different from free-enterprise. Maybe they could write letters to each other explaining what life is like in the U.S. and students could write back?

I also teach 7th grade Geography and am looking for ways to interact with students around the globe. I recently signed up with ePALS to collaborate with classrooms from Europe, but would love the opportunity to offer as much variety as possible to my students. We live in a small rural town in Northeast Missouri an dmany of my students have not had the opportunity to travel outside of the Tri-states. Would love to be involved.
    • Mrs. Mooney - Why not try Sype? Use twitter to try and find other teachers who already do that. Look up mystery Skype. It is a fun and safe way to interact with other classrooms across the country.

      • Mar 2, 2013
    • Mrs. Fe - I teach geography in sixth grade (11-12 years); We cannot use Skype but I participate in Worldwide Culture Swapper, and my class has a blog (http://tuttiinfila.blogspot.it/) and is registered to Edmodo. We can think about a common activity?

    CALLING ALL BEGINNING TEACHERS!!!!!!!!

I created this group called Beginning Teachers. It is aimed as a platform for beginning teachers to help each other out, chat to each other and swap resources.

Please feel free to invite other beginning teachers (approximately 0-5 years experience.) We currently have members of the group with 6 and 7 years experience, so we are not very strict on experience! Also if you have twitter/other social networks, feel free to pass on the message. The more, the merrier!!

I thought it would be a good platform to help each other out. The Join URL is:
