Our 5th/6th grade team has five teachers. Is there a way that all of us can share the app, so we can present a unified, consistent behavior management program to our students and all be "on the same page" so to speak?- Jun 8, 2013
-
Sokikom - We have many multi-grade teams that use Sokikom exactly as you are hoping Mrs. Robbins! All you'll need to do is have each teacher create a "Group" for their homeroom, and share that "group code" with all the other teachers in your team. After everyone has gotten their students into a respective homeroom group, have all your teachers join each of the different homeroom groups. After that, you will see all the other "Groups" in your dropdown of groups when you launch Sokikom. If it'd be easier, I would be happy to discuss this on the phone more...- Jun 10, 2013

I really like what I have seen so far.I liked classdojo. But love yours more. I teach a 5/6 combo. I created a class for my 5th and another for my 6th. Is there there a way were I can create a class were I have both 5/6th together> What I would like to do is hopefully have both my 5th grade student in my 5th grade class be linked with that same account that was created for him in the 5/6 class. Is an app coming out anytime?- May 5, 2013

Sokikom - Hi Mr. De Santiago,
Sokikom - Hi Mr. De Santiago,
Thanks for your kind words - we are really happy to hear that you are enjoying Sokikom! Great question - we made this video to show how to combine your classes into one "Group":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUZ425gpVQU
As you see in the video, there is definitely a way to create a class where you have both your 5th/6th grade classes together! As long as your students "join" this new class using the accounts that they login with right now, your students will still be linked to the same accounts. Please let me know if you have any questions by posting here, giving us a call at 626-765-4566, or emailing us at support@sokikom.com !
You also asked whether an app is coming out anytime - could you give us more details on what you mean by this? As you may know, we have apps available through Edmodo:
http://www.edmodo.com/home#/store/publisher/?...
Hope your weekend is going well - and let us know if you have any suggestions or feedback as you get up and running with Sokikom!

Mrs. Ratfield - Hi Mrs. DeSantiago,
Mrs. Ratfield - Hi Mrs. DeSantiago,
My students are avid Sokikom users. This game could not be more perfect for a 5/6 combo. Because these games are all Core Standards based, I've discovered as the students use it, I learn more about the complexity of the standards and how to better teach them. My kids are learning complex math while I am using Sokikom to bridge the staff development gap. You will discover, mathematically, this is an amazing "game".

Mr. See - Love the attendance option. I have been waiting for it to be implemented somewhere in Edmodo. I also like how it hides the absent students from receiving $$. How do you get to the attendance report though? I'm sure it is right in front of my face, but I don't see it. I know it's opening a can of worms, but how about an import/export function for the attendance grid, and the ability to choose a date other than today to edit.
Also, the random button, a great addition I didn't even know I needed.- Apr 29, 2013
-
Sokikom - Hi Mr. See,
Sokikom - Hi Mr. See,
Thanks for your feedback - we're glad to hear the attendance option is helpful in class! The attendance report is built into the behavior report, currently. If you click on an individual student in the behavior reports, for the days that the student was absent or tardy you will see it in parentheses right next to the date! For example, it would say "Behaviors given Yesterday (tardy)" if the student was tardy yesterday or "Behaviors given 4/23/2013 (absent)" if the student was absent on 4/23.
We build Sokikom based on teacher feedback, so let me know if you were looking for something different for an "attendance report" - the more details the better! We really appreciate you letting us know you are looking for an import/export function for the attendance grid. We'll look into whether it is something we can do easily or if it is a "can of worms", and I'll follow up to let you know when we plan to built this into Sokikom.
Hope your week is starting well,

I have been giving my students badges for different things. I was able to create new ones for different things, but all of the badges have the same value. Is there a way we can give different badges different weights or values?- Mar 24, 2013

Sokikom - Hi Mrs. Canamar,
Thanks for reaching out - great question! We actually are a publisher within Edmodo (not a part of the Edmodo team), so we're not in charge of badges and aren't allowed to create them or set values for badges. I wish I could be more helpful - I'm going to forward your email to the Edmodo team so they can hopefully answer your question!

"At this time, it is not possible for teachers to assign differently weighted Badges to their students. However, I can pass along this suggestion to the team for further consideration. Thanks for your post, and hope you have a great day :) "
Hope that is helpful - let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Ms. Schrock - What about different values for behavior? For instance, some days the class is more squirrely than others, so I need to get their attention by assigning more points for negative behavior ( I call these "credits" for positive behavior, and "debits" for negative behavior). Also, I would like to be able to give more points for positive behaviors like my classroom jobs. Any chance of getting a number value in this area?

Sokikom - Hi Ms. Schrock,
Sokikom - Hi Ms. Schrock,
Thanks for reaching out with your question - unfortunately what you described isn't built into Sokikom just yet!
As a former teacher, I completely understand how it’d be helpful to award $5 or $10 for certain behaviors...and we have gotten this request from other teachers as well. Since we build our system based on feedback and suggestions from teachers you should know that this is something we're currently considering building into Sokikom. I'll be sure to keep you updated on the timeline if we decide to add this to Sokikom soon! In the meantime, to give $5 in cash, you can click on a student 5 times for the given behavior.
Just for our information when we do built this feature, how would you like this to work? When you are giving behaviors, would you want to always have to enter how many points to award, or do this on a separate screen from the "Give Behaviors" page?
Feel free to be in touch with any further issues questions, or suggestions in the meantime - or give us a call at 626.765.4566.

Ms. Schrock - Thanks, Austin! I think it would be beneficial for us to assign values both prior to the event and at the time of the event. For instance, my dailty jobs should be worth an extra value every day....but once in a while when I need to get their attention I could say "Today X, Y, and Z behavior will be worth $__."

She is getting a screen that says "You have lost your connection to our server. It's been happening for her for a few weeks but she's in a regroup class and I hadn't seen her for awhile. At school and at her grandma's house she can connect just fine. Any suggestions? I suggested they try another browser, like chrome, if they haven't already. Sokikom - Hi Laurie,
Sokikom - Hi Laurie,
Hope you had a great weekend - I'll reach out with my email separately so you have that in the future!
I would also have immediately recommended switching to Google Chrome, as the "lost connection" message is either caused by a:
1) Outdated browser
2) Firewall issue
3) Security software or internet connection issue
If possible, could you have your student go to http://www.sokikom.com/test_computer on the computer? At that site, she will be able to test her computer and should receive specific feedback on what went wrong!
Feel free to give me a call at 626.765.4566 anytime in the future if that's more convenient than posting here, or if those steps don't get the situation resolved :)

I am trying to print off weekly behavior reports. Some of my students' avatars are on their reports, some are not. Is there reason some show up and some don't? A setting on the students/my part that I missed somewhere? I am also trying to save color ink at my school by printing to a black and white printer. When I did this, the pie charts did not show up (everything else did). Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Thanks for any tips/hints you can share.- Mar 16, 2013

Sokikom - Hi Mrs. Wood,
Sokikom - Hi Mrs. Wood,
We really appreciate you letting us know that you ran into this issue - our apologies that this happened in the first place! This almost certainly was caused by the web browser that you were using while printing your behavior reports. I'm not sure if you can switch to Google Chrome, but if you print your behavior report from within Google Chrome, there will not be an issue with the avatars and pie charts displaying.
Here's a video of how that will look and work:

My students are trying to accept frie d requests, but a message is coming up that informs them they have to do it after 3:00. Is this the general setting or something I have to change?- Mar 13, 2013

Sokikom - Hi Ms. Clark,
Sokikom - Hi Ms. Clark,
Thanks for reaching out - great question! This is a general setting that we have in place:
If a student is logged in between 7:00 A.M and 3:00 P.M on a school day, after two minutes (total) of chatting, shopping, or browsing friend requests, they will be directed to new academic content to focus on learning. So, when a student attempts to use any of these features before 3:00 p.m., they will get the message that you are describing telling them to come back after 3:00! This is designed to keep students focused on purely educational experiences while in the classroom.

Thanks for reaching out and for your kind words...and your excellent question! The short answer is: we don't have levels for 7th and 8th grade standards just yet.
We build Sokikom based on input from educators and we've had requests to build upper level math games from many other middle and high school teachers using Sokikom. We're working on it, and we appreciate you letting us know that this is something you’re looking for! Our games are built to align with the Common Core based on current research within the discipline and by professional educators, which is a time-intensive process! I'll be sure to be in touch as we have more details about the timeline for these games becoming available, though I'll caution that it probably won't be by the end of this school year. In the meantime continue to be in touch with any other questions or input!

To see your group you need to click on the "Classes" link on the top bar once you've launched the Sokikom app. Here's a quick video showing how to exactly install for a group - it takes about 45 seconds but is a lot easier to describe with a video that with text instructions:

I also logged into your account and was able to verify that your group showed up. I'd be happy to troubleshoot in more detail if that would be helpful. Feel free to reach out to us anytime at support@sokikom.com or to me personally at snehalp@sokikom.com.
Kind regards,
Snehal Patel, Founder & CEO Sokikom

Sokikom - Hi Mrs. Vasiliadis,
Sokikom - Hi Mrs. Vasiliadis,
Very frustrating - I apologize that you're still having issues! Here in the office, we're able to see "Example Class" and "Newtown Computer Tech Support" when we click on groups in your account. Is your group named something else? We haven't seen this issue before (with your group not appearing in a teacher's account), and we've been trying to identify the source of this problem all day. I have two quick questions to help us get this fixed more quickly:
1.If you click on Apps and then click "Manage My App" for our Class Management App (the first :17 seconds of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTygYgljjNc ), do you see your groups listed all the way on the right side of the page?
2. If you can see your groups listed on the right side of the page for our Class Management App, do you see the words "Installed" with a check mark in the box next to any or all of your groups?
We are incredibly sorry for any interruptions this has caused to your plans and instruction. Know that we designed Sokikom to be an easy and seamless set-up process, and we're excited to get this resolved so you can get Sokikom up and running in your classroom! If you'd prefer to just give us a ring at 626.765.4566 instead of posting here, we're available anytime at your convenience! I'll be in touch regardless as we continue to look into your issue and try to identify a solution.
Hope your week is going well,

Sokikom - Mi Mrs. Vasiliadis,
Sokikom - Mi Mrs. Vasiliadis,
Since you don't have the ability to "Manage my App", most likely you have an account which doesn't yet have access to the Edmodo app store. We unfortunately don't have any control over this access...
To get access and to verify that this is the case, you can reach out to Edmodo at this email: appsupport@edmodo.com. The Edmodo team is aware of the matter and ready to help - just tell them that you'd like to manage your Sokikom App, but don't have the option to Manage your app.
I apologize that I can't be more helpful - unfortunately this is one part of Edmodo which we don't have control over! Feel free to reach out with any further questions as you (hopefully) get up and running with Sokikom. If you aren't happy with Edmodo's reponse, please let me know personally so that I can follow up on your behalf and set you up with an account outside of Edmodo!
Thanks for getting back to us so quickly!

My students told me that their class cash hasn't been transferring over to them. When I transfer the class cash, it clears it out on my main screen, but it isn't showing up in their account when they login. Any ideas???- Dec 18, 2012

Sokikom - Hey Mrs. Simonson,
Sokikom - Hey Mrs. Simonson,
Thanks for reaching out to let us know you’re having this issue! To limit inflation in our virtual class cash economy (and I'm not joking here - we've seen it happen quickly!) students have a maximum number of class cash they can earn for a given time period. We want teachers to be able to give as many behaviors as possible, but we also want students to earn class cash slowly enough that they can buy items all throughout the year. Essentially, this limit ensures that students who earn hundreds of behaviors from one teacher in a short time period won't be able to buy all the items right away, so that Sokikom remains an effective tool for engagement and management all year long.
Currently, we've set this limit at 10 class cash within one week - but if you have any feedback on this feature of Sokikom we're always open to input and would welcome your suggestions! Looking into your account, some of your students have already had more than 10 class cash transferred this week, which is why the additional cash transferred in may not be showing up (students can still earn daily Soki-coins for logging in and unlimited Soki-coins by playing the math learning games).
If you have any further questions about this or if you’re having another issue that I didn’t catch that you think might be leading the class cash to not transfer...let me know! If it’d be more helpful, I can also explain things on the phone at your convenience (626.765.4566)
Hope your Tuesday is going well,

Mrs. Simonson - Thanks for the reply. At least now I have an answer for my students. I have been transferring their money over daily, but maybe I will just do it weekly and keep in mind that only $10 will transfer. Thanks again.

Mrs. Simonson - As i was thinking about this last night, I was wondering if you could increase the weekly amount to at least $25, or maybe even $50. Only being able to give my students $2 a day for behavior isn't much of an incentive. Just a thought.

Sokikom - Thanks for reflecting and getting back to us Mrs. Simonson. We're planning to re-evaluate the limit when we add our next set of new items for students, and are definitely planning to increase the weekly limit as you've suggested at that time! We appreciate your concrete suggestions on a number for that new limit - I'll be in touch with updates once we change to the new system.
Have a great rest of the week,
Austin- Dec 20, 2012
