I would like to receive information regarding Language Arts that will enhance some of the basic tools needed to improve my students writing skills.
    • Cristina Heffernan - Hi, We have a tool called Essay critique that allows you to easily grade short answers. Better yet it allows you to share them with your students using a simple Essay Grading tool. What you need to do is assign a problem with an open response then in the item report click on Essay grading and from there you can grade and share the students responses.

Any chance that next year kids can log into Assistements through Edmodo the way they can for some apps .... No password; Edmodo is their portal?
    • Cristina Heffernan - That is a great idea, We have a student this summer who is going to be looking into how we can take advantage of the Edmodo App feature. I will tell him your idea.

I don't know how to comment on your reply :) But I am using google chrome
    • Cristina Heffernan - Ok in Chrome on a mac. I use the two finger scroll. Then if you go to the edge of the box with the data, move a bit to the right and two finger scroll, move a bit more and do it again and it should scroll. See if that works. In Firefox the bar is just there :-)

I am looking at the assignment report...I can scroll across the page to see new assignments but cannot find a way to scroll down to see all of my students. Any suggestions?
    • Cristina Heffernan - Hi Jen, My first question to you is what browser are you in. The scroll bars show up very differently in different browsers. Lets start there.

    Hi,
Is there a possibility to translated ASSISTments into the Dutch language?
    • Cristina Heffernan - You can type your questions in whatever language you want. There is a fine skin of english but I suspect most dutch students can handle this. The title of the Problem set and the text etc in an assistment are all something the author types. You can tell me how well any translation programs work.

Attention iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch Users

The release of Apple's newest operating system iOS 6 for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch has introduced compatibility issues between Safari and many web applications, including ASSISTments. In the case of ASSISTments, many of you have been seeing sporadic errors which prevent you from completing your assignments. While the ASSISTments developers pursue a solution, we recommend you download the Google Chrome web browser and use it with ASSISTments. Chrome can be found and installed via Apple's App Store (at no charge) or by following this link.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize any inconvenience.

    • Mrs. Schneider - Have these issues been resolved?

      • Feb 17, 2013
    • ASSISTments - Hi, Yes but we have not released the new version yet. That said we have lots of students using ASSISTments on iPads. They just use the Chrome or Google Browsers that can be downloaded for free from the App Store. With those browsers ASSISTments works great.

      • ASSISTments - Hi Sarah, the most important thing about your comment is the "it looks useful" ASSISTments is not something you just put kids in front of. It is something you use. In Lesson 2 you will get your account.

      • ASSISTments - Mrs. Donnelly, are you enrolled in one of the classes?

        • Sep 27, 2012
      • Ms. Murray - Having looked at the video and comments from the website, I like is the fact that the students revisit the materials taught and so they have the opportunity to strengthen their skill at completing tasks.

        • Sep 27, 2012
      • Cristina Heffernan - Also the idea is that they visit whatever the teacher assigns. It is in the control of the teacher so it is the teacher who knows what to do with the data.

        • Sep 27, 2012
    • Ms. Murray - I've solved the note from Alison Donnelly. We are introducing Edmodo into our school and some of our teachers are testing it out. I would imagine that my colleague saw my post and wrote a reply. Mind you I think she might be interested in this programme!

Is there a way to search for multiple choice format questions in ASSISTments? Our teachers are interested in using it for common assessments but we are awaiting laptop cart purchases so in the meantime we need to give the tests with scantron sheets. I would like to use ASSISTments content to build the assessments so they can later be done in ASSISTments once we have more access for students to computers in the building.
    • Cristina Heffernan - Hi Jennifer, Nice to hear from you can not search by problem type. However the content is organized by grade and strand (for math) so you can quickly get to the area you are interested in then when you click on print you will see if it is multiple choice. One suggestion would be to pick any problem you like from ASSISTments and then for now with the scantron just turn it into multiple choice. When you return to ASSISTments you will have the more desirable fill in. I know this is not ideal since it is not trivial to write good multiple choice options but this way you will more...

We're looking at how to best provide access to ASSISTments in our school. Aside from desktop labs, on which digital platforms can students currently use ASSISTments? Since it is web-based, I understand that any internet-ready device should work, but are there specific platforms that best support ASSISTments? For example - ipads, ipods, etc.?
