I need some input from some Computer technology Teachers out there. Attached is a google document I'm working on, trying to figure out the process of taking 3rd grade students with very little knowledge of computers, within 4 years be able to do armature programming, to the point of actually creating APPS.

This is very time sensitive since there is a large private grant on the line, so please give me input, or PM me your gmail address so I could share the actual document with you.

I just finished teaching GameStar Mechanic for the first time in our after-school MIADs program! It was so innovative! Students from grades 3-6 were selected and placed together in the same class. Amazing PLN for students!

To what extent does the app integrate with edmodo? Does it integrate with the gradebook? and whet else?
    • Gamestar Mechanic - Rabbi Tauber, the integration includes single sign on and publishing of achievements/badges from Gamestar to Edmodo. We do not integrate with the gradebook at this time.

I recently purchased Gamestar for a class of 30 summer school students (app through Edmodo). I would like to be able to print out reports of their progress and teach them the mini-lessons you offer online. I am not sure whether I should have students login through Edmodo or online at http://gamestarmechanic.com/join/redeem/ELDWo... (my class login).
    • Gamestar Mechanic - Ann Marie - your students should always log in to Gamestar through Edmodo if you purchased access through Edmodo.

      • Ms. Palmer - Thank you :)

      • Ms. Palmer - I apologize for my confusion. I just purchased the premium membership for 10 of my students and today received an email with links outside of Edmodo. Whenever I click on the links I get a message that says I cannot access Gamestar outside of Edmodo. I want to be sure to track my student progress. Thank you.

        • May 28, 2013
      • Gamestar Mechanic - Ann Marie -- you and the students should always log in through Edmodo. Let me investigate the email to make sure it isn't saying anything misleading.

        • May 28, 2013
      • Mr. Lewis - you are going to love it.
I would create an educational game challenge contest.

        • May 28, 2013
      • Ms. Palmer - Do you have an address I can send the email to? I will be starting a class on Tuesday (June 4th) and I would love to get this figured out if possible. I cannot use any of the links in the email because they all refer me back to Edmodo. Here is one of the links that is not working:
        http://edmodo.gamestarmechanic.com/class/prof...
When I try to use any of the links in the message, I get this:
        "You cannot run Gamestar
        more...
        • Jun 1, 2013
      • Gamestar Mechanic - Yes, please email us at educators@gamestarmechanic.com. Again, do not use the links in the message... you and you students should *always* launch the app from within Edmodo.

    • Mr. Benfield - Is there a place to see some examples/screen shots of the core subject games like this one?

      • May 22, 2013
    • Gamestar Mechanic - Hi Mr. Benfield -If you email us at kschlottman@elinemedia.com, we'd be happy to send you some sample games that students have created connected to core subject areas. Thanks!

    • Mr. Lewis - Students can send you links to their games.

      • Karen Finklestein - but I want to see that they have really completed quests.

        • May 21, 2013
      • Mr. Lewis - They will not be able to publish games until about 80% of quest done

        • May 21, 2013
      • Karen Finklestein - I actually haven't assigned anything - I gave them this to do as a filler for the end of the year LOL Most of them are loving it and making games and playing each other's games

        • May 21, 2013
      • Mr. Lewis - It is great. Best way to check is to have them publish game. They can play each others games, also

        • May 21, 2013
      • Karen Finklestein - Yeah - they are - and having a blast

        • May 21, 2013
      • Gamestar Mechanic - Karen - glad the kids are enjoying it. The student tracking features in Gamestar are included in the premium educational edition.

Couldn't find this in my teacher account options: Is there an option where my students can skip levels (the cheat button) in a game? We are writing game reviews (persuasive writing essay) and some students are reviewing very challenging 17-level games. It's more important they experience the game story and how the game works than if they conquer every level.

If a cheat option for students doesn't exist, I recommend including the option. It helps with playtesting also.
    • Gamestar Mechanic - Thanks for the feedback, Mr. Mickelson. We don't currently have a cheat option available to students, just instructors, but it's something we can look at.

I know gamestar mechanic has templates set up in the workshop. I like the lesson examples but could some of the lesson templates have backgrounds such as, layers of the sky, This would help my students when doing this activity. Thanks,
    • Gamestar Mechanic - Thanks Mr. Lewis. Are there particular levels or lessons where you would find this especially helpful?
