Are there any technology teachers out there that can me insight about class scheduling for lab time in an elementary school? How does it function and are teachers asked to stay with classes? Is it an open schedule where teachers have time and you are more of a facilitator? Just asking to get ahead of the upcoming school year any advice will help.
    • Mrs. Kuntz - We have both a teaching lab (where I am the instructor) and an open lab. With my lab teachers are given a specific time once a week for 50 minutes. Since I am licensed teachers do not need to stay with their students although many do since the projects I do with them are designed to be taken back to the classroom and they want to know what we are doing.
The other lab is currently set up as an open time for teachers to just sign up when they want to. However, under this set up our 4th and 5th grades are the only ones that really come and use the lab. It sits vacant

    • Mrs. Wallace - It depends on the school. At my school, I'm the Technology teacher and I see my students on a rotation schedule once every 6 days (We have 1100 students). Teachers would drop their students off and come back for them after 40 minutes since this is the regular ed teacher's planning time.
Each grade level has about 8 or 9 classes so the extra classes would divide their students and spread them among two or three other classes so they all students are able to attend Specials classes within the 6-day schedule.
In addition to having Tech on the wheel,

    • Mrs. Kennedy - Our schedule is fairly similar to that posted above however, I see students once a week. Teachers (except Kindergarten) do not stay as this is their prep period. Computer lab is available to students before and after school. There are also a few slots during the day where teachers may bring their classes for special project work.

I am really liking the "simple drawings" concept for teaching concepts such as vocab. Easy to make and fun to get teachers involved in screencasting. Check it out!

How can I use Ipad on my lessons of English language?
    • Mrs. Thibadeau - The best way I have used my iPad in English lessons is to copy a text from a word document, paste it into a PowerPoint slide, save that slide as a jpg in dropbox, then upload the picture of that document into Educreations. From there, you can teach and record your lesson (if you have a document camera, you can place your iPad under it to show the class) and then upload it to your website. It's great for students who are absent or need remediation...
