Diane Quirk - When you click on a word it gives you several suggestions for the definition. You can delete any of the suggestions that don't fit the context of the article you're reading. I love that part for helping students to use context clues for meaning.- May 10, 2012
-
Ms. Hurst - I haven't played with it that far yet, but I'm getting great feedback from the ELD, freshmen, and resource teachers. They say kids have already started using it independently. That's not bad, considering we're out for summer next Friday. They are energized and focused with only six more days of school. I LOVE it!- May 10, 2012

Diane Quirk - And it will show you data about the location of the device that scanned the code - very cool- May 9, 2012

I drop this Symbaloo into Edmodo for my students to give them choices for tools that best help them meet the objectives of my units. We have been using WriteBoard along with Google.Docs and SpringNote, but WriteBoard is "retired," and my students are asking for a similar alternative. Do any of you have ideas for similar sites?-
Diane Quirk - Thanks for sharing this. Is TitanPad similar enough? http://www.titanpad.com. It's free and you can create a pad without an account. However, an account will allow you to keep track of all the pads you create and it will let you set passwords for your pads.- May 4, 2012
-
Nina Lyulkun - I always use Symbaloo. It's a pretty good and useful tool. TitanPad looks the same as EatherPad and more other similar services. Though, they disappear very soon after being released.
The idea of these services if very good to work collaboratively with students, colleagues ...
Thank you very much for sharing.- May 6, 2012

Diane Quirk to TeqIf you had these desks in your classroom, how would it change your instruction?-
Mr. Wanek - Those are great! My students would change their position frequently. Different grouping would be so easy. I like moving around and being in different places during the day. Plus we could have races like we did in phys. ed. class with those little scooters.- May 3, 2012

Ms. Vouroudis to TeqCALLING ALL BEGINNING TEACHERS!!!!!!!!
I created this group called Beginning Teachers. It is aimed as a platform for beginning teachers to help each other out, chat to each other and swap resources.
Please feel free to invite other beginning teachers (approximately 0-5 years experience.) We currently have members of the group with 6 and 7 years experience, so we are not very strict on experience! Also if you have twitter/other social networks, feel free to pass on the message. The more, the merrier!!
I thought it would be a good platform to help each other out. The Join URL is:

I see that the new SMART Notebook version 11 is now available for download from the SMART website, has anyone had a chance to play with it yet? I'm also curious to know if it will be necessary to be re-certified as a trainer for this new version.-
Diane Quirk - We have a webinar archived on our site with some introductory information about Notebook 11. It should give some idea of the changes that have been made to the software.- Apr 25, 2012

Mr. Rutan - I have now taken Notebook 11 around the block for a spin and I have to say I like the new improvements, the ability to record and add sounds to objects is great, the new browser object is pretty cool, the text handling is much improved and I can't wait to see what teachers will do with the new activity builder.- Apr 25, 2012
-
Diane Quirk - The changes in the software certainly provide some great interactive learning opportunities!- Apr 25, 2012
-
Jeff Peterson - Notebook 11 is great. The Activity Builder is an excellent addition. I've been beta testing the software for the past couple months. The flow of the toolbar, particularly regarding object properties, is nice. This makes modifications to objects much quicker. There are many great features with the new software.
For anyone who is certified on Notebook 10, they will have to get recertified on Notebook 11. Opportunities for recertification are supposed to come out at the beginning of May in the SMART Learning Space.- Apr 26, 2012

Mr. Hodkinson - One of my favorite new features is the SMART PDF Viewer! You are now able to annotate directly onto a PDF file and scroll with the ink staying in place. This is a HUGE convenience!- Apr 26, 2012
