Does anyone have access to rubrics for Pixton projects?? Our school will be purchasing the license next year but we need to write curriculum this summer to align it with common core and justify using it.
    • Mrs. Mass - What subject area? Does that matter? For the most part, I approach any projects in Pixton or any other Web 2.0 tool with a writing rubric. Sometimes it needs to be adjusted for specific concepts, but it's really just another writing task most of the time.

      • May 24, 2013
    • Pixton Comics - FYI, the interactive rubrics that are part of Pixton for Schools (at Pixton.com) are not currently part of the Pixton Edmodo app.

Is is possible for students to build a comic collaboratively?
    • Mrs. Mass - I'd like to know that, too! In the past, when I wanted student collaboration, I would have students create a script in a Google doc so I could see who wrote what and give feedback, then have them EACH create their own Pixton comic, recommending they EACH do something additional or unique that strays from the original script to hold them individually accountable.

      • Pixton Comics - Unfortunately, collaboration isn't available in the Pixton Edmodo app, although we may introduce it in the future. The method described by Mrs. Mass is a good recommendation!

      • Ms. Palmer - Thank you and thanks, Mrs. Mass.

Pixton is very good and and useful to work with students. Ah!

        • May 19, 2013

        • May 21, 2013

    • Pixton Comics - Better yet, if you cannot access the Pixton app on Edmodo yet, go to Pixton.com, select Pixton for Schools, and create an account there.

I just need some directions on using the Pixton app. Last year we used Pixton and I was able to create my student accounts, create lessons and grade student work with a rubric, make comments etc. I am not seeing those features with the Edmodo app and I'm not sure if that is available with the app.
    • Pixton Comics - Dear Mr. Leftridge,
Because Edmodo already includes functionality for managing student accounts, groups, assignments, grading, etc., the Pixton Edmodo app consists of just the comic-making tool and how-to videos.
Students using the Pixton Edmodo app can use the tool to create comics, and then share them in at least three ways:
      1. Submit a comic towards an active Edmodo assignment; the Teacher can view submitted comics in the "Turned in" area of Edmodo;
      2. Print or download a comic;
      3. Share a direct link to a comic.
      Sincerely,

Okay, I created a Pixton group, and enrolled 30 students, if a student leaves that group does that license follow that student or I will it free up that license for another student to join in their place.
    • Pixton Comics - That's very good question, Ms. Parker! It's one for Edmodo. Please email your question to support@edmodo.com. If you could post the answer here, it'll help other teachers who may have the same question in the future.

I have a student having major issues with Pixton in Edmodo apps. She can't save her work to edit later. When she looks at a project and she goes in to edit it, the panes are all blank. I just walked through the process with her and saw her previous creations, which are all blank. We copied and added a character and speech bubble to one pane, and it looks like it saved for now.
    • Pixton Comics - We're sorry to hear this, Mrs. Mass. If the student clicks on one of the blank panels to edit it, is the panel still blank, or do its contents appear?
If you can email us at support@pixton.com with your student's Edmodo screen name and the title of the comic, we'll be able to investigate further.

Can you create comics in a foreign language?
    Thanks,
    Amy
    • Ms. Dulaney - There are just text boxes and you type whatever words that you want for the comics in Pixton, so as long as your keyboard allows it, I think it will work (have to admit that I have not tried it to check for proper accent marks).

      • Jan 18, 2013
    • Mikki Shalata - I wrote some in Spanish. I have a full length keyboard with a number pad so I used the ALT key shortcuts and they worked just fine.

      • Jan 19, 2013
    • Pixton Comics - Another tip: When you first click to create a comic, you can specify its language in the drop-down list near the top-right corner of the page. For some languages, Pixton will load a different set of fonts (for Greek, for example).
Once you're entering text into a speech bubble in your comic, if certain characters are not appearing, try the following:
      1. Make sure you've selected a font that supports accented characters. (Almost all of the available fonts do.)
      2. Make sure you're using the correct keys on your keyboard, and that your computer's

How much are the add on licenses? I'm looking at adding around 85+
    • Pixton Comics - Please check the Edmodo App Store to be sure, but the app should cost $39.95 for 30 students, and then $1.50 per additional student.

How do I view the comics my students have created on Edmodo? I noticed that when they were finished creating their comics they pushed a button SUBMIT.
    • Mrs. Alvarez - Generally there is a link that they copy and either paste or attach in a post to you or the class wall.

      • Jan 13, 2013
    • Pixton Comics - There are three ways a student can share a comic with their teacher:
      1. By submitting it in association with an Edmodo assignment. In this case, the comic would appear as "Turned In" by that student for that assignment, in your Edmodo account.
      2. By adding it to their Library. In this case, you would access the student's Library and find the comic there.
      3. By sharing a direct link to the comic. In this case, the link would take you to the comic on the Pixton website.

2 questions- If I purchase the edmodo Pixton app how long is it for? And if I purchase from Pixton for Schools can the comic strips from multiple students in a classroom be put into one "book" together so that they can be viewed as one story?
    • Mrs. Mass - You can put together a book of projects?

      • Dec 13, 2012
    • Kim Reynolds - I know the app is good for one calender year.

      • Dec 13, 2012
    • Pixton Comics - Ms. Reynolds is correct, the Edmodo Pixton app is good for one year.
Your question about books has prompted us to include the "Comic Book" feature in Pixton for Schools, which has hitherto only been available in Pixton for Fun. Teachers can now create compilations of their students' comics.
Comic Books are automatically published to the classroom of the teacher's choice; and the link to the book can be shared with anyone.
The Comic Book feature is not currently available within the Edmodo Pixton app. The advantage of the Edmodo app is that

Is there a way for my students to share characters that they have created with each other. I would like students to work in pairs each partner making part of the comic. Is it possible to share characters that they create?
    • Pixton Comics - The only way for students to share characters at this time, is for them to visually copy one another's characters.
In Pixton for Schools, which is available at Pixton.com and separate from the Edmodo app, students can remix and even collaborate on comics and characters. However those advanced features have yet to be included in the Edmodo app.

I already have a Pixton account online. Is there a way to link it to the Edmodo app so it is easier for the students to turn in their assignments?
    • Pixton Comics - Hi Becky,
Yes, in Pixton for Schools when a student's comic is submitted and approved, an "Edmodo" button appears under the published comic. This allows students to add any comic to their Edmodo library in the simpest way possible.
Please let us know if this option doesn't work as expected.
      Sincerely,
      The Pixton Team
