I teach high school, how can I use ClassDojo as an incentive to do well in class?- 20 hours ago
-
A quick note for the end of the week.- Yesterday
-
A dose of encouragement. Your ClassDojo classes may show a bad day yesterday, but today can be better.- May 16, 2013

I teach 2nd grade, and will be teaching 4th grade next year. Does anyone have any suggestions on what Positive and Negative behaviors would work best for this age group? I know many of you have been using CDJ longer than I have, and would love to benefit from your experience.- May 13, 2013

I want to Archive or erase the points that my students have earned and let them use those points for a class auction of some prizes. I'm not sure how to do that the best way.
Any tips?- May 13, 2013

Hi is anyone else having problems with dojo, it looks very odd, I can't access anything? I need it very soon...- May 13, 2013
-
Ms. Crocker - I've tried it on google chrom too and that's the same...
- May 13, 2013
-
Ms. Crocker - It seems to be working fine today. Thanks.
- May 14, 2013
-
ClassDojo - Hi Ms. Crocker - thanks for checking in! It appears your school's firewall may have temporarily caused interference but it should all be resolved now! Let us know if there's anything we can ever do for you :)

Has anyone else had trouble changing the avatars? They just seem to act like stickers when I try to change them by sticking onto the previous avatar.- May 12, 2013

Ms. Scott - I tried it but when I click on "create," nothing happens.

Ms. Stevenson - Once you have entered text in each of the fields, it will generate a link. Very cute!
- May 6, 2013
-
Ms. Scott - Aha-- I figured it out. It wouldn't work for me in Fireox but it does work in IE. :-)
- May 6, 2013

-
Ms. Scott - Never mind. I thought I figured it out. The "create" button (even after text has been entered) doesn't seem to work for me... I can preview just fine, but it doesn't actually "create" anything.

So, I'm curious--what age group do you use this with? And, how distracting is it? Does it take away from student-teacher interaction, or does it get pretty easy? Small groups? Large groups?- May 3, 2013
-
Mrs. Stauffenecker - I use ClassDojo with 7-8th graders and by the 2nd or 3rd time I use it, it's just background. They pay attention if they hear a ding, but they're not overly distracted by it.

Danielle Speiser - Do you have a ton of kids?
Do you send reports home?- May 3, 2013
-
Mrs. Stauffenecker - I teach ESL, so my classes are generally small. I don't send reports home, but I do give Edmodo badges for accumulated points, so parents can see those.
- May 3, 2013
-
Doris Spencer - I use it in my computer lab with K-5, after a couple of days not distracting but they do pay attention to the points. Receiving or losing. I love it
- May 4, 2013
-
Mrs. Roe - I use it with sophomores. It gets them to participate.
- May 4, 2013
-
Ms. Tefft - I use it with 6th grade. I have about 60 kids. It was distracting the frost couple days then it just faded into the classroom. I use reward and consequences with it. I love he reports to document when further intervention is needed. I plan to implement much more parent involvement next year.
- May 4, 2013
-
Mrs. Kelley - I use Edmodo with 3rd graders. We have a whole class group and several smaller groups for our Tech Novel Buddies. I also use it for my Green Team Club.
- May 4, 2013
-
Mrs. Moore - I use it with 5th graders and they don't notice it up but they do look when they hear the dings...
- May 6, 2013
-
Sonya Lee Lacelle - I use it with grade 8 students (all 85 of them). I teach French Immersion so it is a great incentive for them to be rewarded for speaking French. I have been using it for two weeks now and everyone is really enjoying it! The students are not distracted by it because I turn the sound off. I also encourage them to nominate others for their good deeds! Classdojo is a nice spice up for the last couple of months of school :)
- May 6, 2013
-
Erika Crain - I don't send reports or let the parents in to see, but I use it with Pre Kindergarten, projected on the board. Sometimes they just need to see SOMETHING happen. The sound alone is enough to make them want to do their best.
- May 7, 2013
-
Danielle Speiser - I've just started using it. I think the kids have started to be more prepared when they hear the negative sound...We'll see. I feel like it might be more teacher-training, and I worry that I might not see all the positives...
- May 7, 2013
-
Erika Crain - For my classroom I am able to project it from the web onto my white board. I use the mobile app on my iPad to change points. This saves lots of time and is not nearly as distracting as walking back and forth to the computer. The online app sync's well with the mobile app.
- May 7, 2013
-
Ms. Zelina - I've been using it since the beginning of the school year and they love it. It's at the point now where I just need to click on their name and the second they see it go to the negative, they all calm down.
I also give homework passes to the 3 students with the most points at the end of the month. So it's a little more incentive for them.- May 12, 2013
-
-
Mrs. Abdul Malik - I use it for my 2nd - 9th graders. From time to time , I'll show them the total points awarded or taken away. It is very useful tool when managing my classes.

ClassDojo - Hi Sonya - very sorry to hear that - can you email us at hello@classdojo.com so we can help figure out what's blocking the site? Thanks :)

Sonya Lee Lacelle - It was working by the afternoon! I will email next time if I have difficulties. Thanks you!! My class and I area really enjoying ClassDojo! Actually, I may be enjoying it more than them! :)

I love using Class Dojo with my first graders. They like to watch the points add up and it has been great for those students who need help monitoring their behavior . We add up our points over a couple weeks and the students who have earned the most choose a prize that was predetermined by them as a class.
- Apr 30, 2013
-
Jody Stevenson - I do a similiar reward...at the end of every month, the class with the most points wins a free day in computer lab. They love it!

ClassDojo - Thanks for sharing Mrs. Schafsnitz! :)

Having trouble changing student's icon on DoJo. I click and drag to her spot and the icon lands on top of the old icon, doesn't change (as I could earlier)…..I tried at home and still having trouble. Any ideas?- Apr 29, 2013

Hi I still can't access new classes please can anyone advise?- Apr 29, 2013

ClassDojo - Hi Ms. Crocker - sometimes this happens when teachers have 2+ accounts and accidentally log into the wrong one - could that be what is happening here? If not, please shoot us an email at hello@classdojo.com and we'll get this figured out for you right away :)

A built-in TIMER?!?!? How did I miss the launch of the timer?!? I am soooooooo excited!!!- Apr 25, 2013
-
Mrs. Menzie - Love the timer, too! I use the Countdown a lot for activities, and it helps me realize how long it's been since I did a classwide observation--I try to do a participation/on task observation every ten minutes or so.

-
Mrs. Volak - Love the timer and the RANDOM key…. who is ready and we click the random key….if they followed directions, they earn a point!
- Apr 29, 2013
-
Ms. Marshall - what happens Mrs Volak if the random person selected is not ready?
- May 5, 2013
-
-
Mrs. Volak - Then, just see their number chosen and then I just click the 'x' in top right corner to close it….they see they don't earn a point. I use it only as a bonus point.

Can I add a positive/negative point and have it be date specific? Essentially, I sometimes write down points if I can't use the computer for some reason and then I have to go back and enter them? I'd like the date to be accurate.
Thanks!- Apr 24, 2013
-
ClassDojo - Hi Mrs. Mitchell - thanks for checking in! At this time you cannot retroactively add awards, but it's something we're hoping to add soon. In the meantime, please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you :)
- Apr 24, 2013
-
Mr. Villegas - A good suggestion for helping keep track of points is to use the iPad or iPhone app. I walk around with my phone all day long and add and subtract points as needed. Additionally, the random option is great for calling upon students and ensuring that they are actively engaged an that everyone gets a chance to participate.
- Apr 24, 2013
-
Mrs. Flynt - Yes, but there are some situations where neither the computer nor the phone is handy. I think this would be the very thing that would make me launch Class DoJo with my kids. I'm using it for just for kicks and minor data monitoring right now, but I definitely need to ability to go back and retroactively add/subtract/modify points on specific dates and add notes to certain events to make this something I'd be willing to share with kids and parents.

I use Dojo on my smart board. For many months, I used to select all students and then deselect 2 or 3 before awarding positive points. However, since the new changes, (the light blue boxes) I haven't been able to deselect off the smart board. I have to use the computer. Also, when I deselect off the computer I have to do a dragging motion instead of just clicking. Any ideas- Apr 23, 2013

Mrs. Menzie - The box doesnt change unless you move the mouse away from the hoover highlighted student on the smart board. It fooled me at first, after they updated the settings the hoover highlight is the same color as the selected students, so I had started tapping into the white space after I tapped the few students who needed to be removed from the positive point. I'm such a visual person, I hope that made sense!
- Apr 29, 2013

Ms. Tellaeche - Thank you! Yes, it makes lots of sense. I tried it and it worked. :)

We're solving the biggest pain-point teachers face: improving student behavior and engagement in the classroom. We're doing it by gamifying the classroom with virtual, intrinsic, in-classroom incentive structures.
Prekindergarten - Higher Education

When I did use it, however, I would award positive points for:
1) participation -- answering questions in class or answering correctly when called on
2) helping others
3) being respectful
4) being responsible -- if for example an assignment was turned in ahead of time, then I have them a point. Or, if students followed classroom procedures more...
