Hi I am an ICT teacher and currently doing my final masters assignment on Project Based Learning as I have recently integrated a project based qualification which has proved a huge success in developing the skills of my pupils. I am hoping that some of you may be able to help me by getting pupils to complete my survey to gather evidence? the link is below.... I do hope you will be able to help in my research. Thank you :)

The students from the 5th Grade made their own paper slide videos which were then presented on a glogster poster.
    • Mr. Macionis - Very cool project. Our 5th graders work on countries as well and have been playing with how to share their info. This seems like a great idea. Thank you for sharing!

Figuring out how to engage with experts during PBL can be a challenge. This post includes insights from a PBL-based high school program that has set up an advisory committee to tap local experts from fields ranging from digital gaming to economic development. They provide feedback to students (and teachers), open doors for field trips and internships, and connect school and community.

My colleagues and I are starting a project-based program which will include interdisciplinary work between science, literacy and social studies. Our goal with each project is to team up with the community to improve the community.

I would love to have students do individual blogs about their experiences and accomplishments along the way. Does anyone have an opinion on the best and most user friendly blogging site for 9th & 10th grade students to do this? Any feedback/insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
    • Ms. Searcy - My students have been pretty fond of Tumblr. It's got an OK mobile platform, and allows for easy video and image embedding, as well as text-based blogs. It's free, somewhat hip, and of course, consequently banned by my school system. Your system may not be as Draconian about it, though.

      • Ms. Bolam - Are you giving a final exam? Even if not, what about review board games? Separate students into groups and have each group create a board game based on what they learned this year. You could give each group a discipline, like English or math, or have every group incorporate a certain number of questions for each discipline for a more thorough review. Then, they can truly play each other's games.

      • Mr. Kleine - This is math related, so your math teachers will be happy. Try sumdog.com it lets the kids play cool games by answering math questions. I set up a competition today and the kids went CRAZY!! They are more engaged in doing the math problems then ever.

      • Mrs. Gagel - I second sumdog, but I am sure you can't use it for 17 days. One thing I am doing with my class that finished the curriculum is having them create a product (comic strip, book, video, or infographic) on a topic of instruction for the year. They are recalling the things we did earlier in the year, and allowing them to use their creativity as well. Good luck!
        • May 15, 2012
      • Mr. Kleine - I agree. Sumdog can take 2 or 3 days in class.

We are just beginning to explore PBL for elementary students. Any suggestions about where to start ?
    • Mrs. Laur - The PBL and the Elementary Grades book from BIE is a good place to start. You can purchase the book at http://www.bie.org . I would also suggest viewing the Elementary PBL webinar archive. You can find it in the "Collection" in this community. It is located in the webinar folder.

      • Missi Voss - Start with your class. What issues/problems do they see with their school/community/world that they would like to explore? If they decide on the problem to solve, they will be much more engaged in the learning it will take to offer possible solutions.

    • Mr. Post - also on the BIE website you can search, from the home screen, for project examples at all grade levels and subject areas. very useful! in the video section you can also watch a video on a school redoing their courtyard, which is a great example of an ambitious project. that said, start small at first.
