Ms. Hicks - The Bard Banter is the same as the dialogical journal you did for the 2.2 homework. On the left side put quotes, and on the right side put your commentary to go with your quotes. Choose at least four of the following questions for each quote:
1) How would I translate this quotation in my own words? What are the key words--concrete nouns and powerful verbs?
2) What questions come to mind as I read this quotation?
3) What do I think of the character's choices? Which character intrigues me the most? Why?
4) What impresses or surprises me about the plot developments here? What do I predict will happen next?
5) Can I make any personal connections with the story?
6) Can I make any connections to other literature, historical events, film or art?
7) What's the most important issue or theme in this quotation? Motif?
8) What figurative language (simile, metaphor, and hyperbole) do I notice? How does the language emphasize and illustrate the theme?

Fariheen T. - oh and one more thing, what does paradox mean? (Feb 8, 2010)

Ms. Hicks - A paradox is two opposite ideas existing at the same time - for instance women in Elizabethan England had very little rights, but their was a woman that was queen at the time, the most powerful person in England. An oxymoron (two opposite words when put together express a truth like jumbo shrimp) is a type of paradox. (Feb 8, 2010)
