This wasn't planned in advance, but I have invited those of you who shared your Gmail addresses with me at the beginning of the semester to video conference with me via Google Hangout.

This will work on laptops with webcams and iOS devices or Android devices with cameras. Let's see if this takes off.

Long wall post. Please read carefully.

Please watch my short screencast at the beginning of tomorrow's session. Kenny, the tech exec in the MxL will play it for you.

Junaida has kindly agreed to help me take attendance and keep time. Each presentation: 15min of discussion + 5min evaluation (see link to form). I will make the summary spreadsheet available to you after tomorrow's session.

If you find that you have been left out by the luck of the draw, don't forget that you have already presented online. You just may not have had face-to-face feedback. In that case, ask your peers to leave comments in response to your wall post.

I will create a new individual assignment submission area AFTER you have presented. Feel free to make edits to your presentations before you submit them.

Finally, please share your one big takeaway from this course by replying to this wall entry.

    Thank you very much!

    • Dr. Tan - BTW, if you have your email notifications still on, you will realise that I have left comments for some of you who submitted your presentations ahead of time.
I might not be able to get to all your presentations before the start of class tomorrow, but you should get some very useful ideas and feedback in class from your peers.

      • Whei Jie S. - My big take away is the concept, principles and advantages of GBL and how it can be integrated into T&L. Implementing GBL without playing games is something new to me and it has totally shifted my perceptions about GBL. And in order for integration into T&L to happen, the change management principles (coupled with real life examples) are useful in guiding our change efforts.

      • Mr. Yeo - My big takeaway from the course is to consider using steps from change management to implement new programmes and policy. The models presented provide a structured manner in thinking about how to make the changes work and what problems we will potentially face. The various class sharings also helped to level-up my "experience" in implementing new programmes in the future :)

        • Mar 1, 2012
      • Mr. Chong - The biggest take away is about learning of PALS model - how to manage change in particularly in school context. We can apply it in our works be it the change is already done or yet to begin. I also appreaciate the discussion that have been taken place in tutorial. Let's hope to keep in touch with each other.

      • Daphne C. - My takeaway from this course:
        'Da-bao' #1:
The importance of articulating change. Well, not that the planning, leading and sustaining aren't important, but the best laid plans can fall through if the change is not well-articulated.
        'Da-bao' #2:
Game-based learning. The usual games that we let our pupils play in class kill the joy of gaming. GBL can achieve many objectives at one time - as compared to traditional classroom. Time to rethink and how to revamp my arcade for GBL now.

        • Mar 1, 2012
      • Mr. Chee Hui - The way to look at leading changes using PALS seem to vary from presenter to presenter. Through the questions posted by my peers, it allow me to rethink how to use PALS by relooking it at another perspective. Flipped classroom concept is also a good way to engage learners in clarifying their understanding. The time use for conducting frontal teaching is now use effectively to clarify doubts which can alow learners to internalise their thinking.

        • Mar 1, 2012
      • Mr. Simon - It was great that the elective was anchored on "CHANGE". When my principal signed me up for this elective, I thought that it was going to be week after weeks of listening to the use of ICT in T&L. Learning to manage CHANGE is not just applicable to my role in the ICT department, but it is also a life skill that everyone can benefit from. Maybe the ICT department goes through changes more frequently than the other departments. With my new insight and understanding of CHANGE, I think I am able to carry out my role in the managemnt com better. This short paragaph more...

    • Ren Ren D - The final assignment has given me the basic platform to gather some thought and ideas for a school base plan. Even though the electives may be demanding for me to certain aspect of thinking, in the process of 7 weeks, I have learn some knowledge of the good sharing shared in mainstream schools . The presentation by individual group , has helped me learn some different tools use to mind map for discussion and other useful resources related to GBL. The hands on experience is the best to link my interest to this course. By experience I’m able to link how these more...

    Hi all,

    Hope this works now..
    • Dr. Tan - Nice touch including the animations to "verbally" explain rationales!
The second animation mentioned the possibility of including students of different abilities. Will the iPads be used subjects other than EMS and MT as well? Why/Why not?

      • Feb 29, 2012
    • Daphne C. - In fact, the iPads could be used in many subject areas such as Health Ed, Social Studies and in fact, I am even toying with the idea of using it for PE! There are so many apps available for fitness such as the Nike Training Club. As the school faces space constraints especially during a wet weather, the iPad in PE is an alternative to wet weather programme. However, this CANNOT replace PE as pupils still need to get up and get active physically. The iPad is a supplementary tool to PE.
My Health Ed Subject Head has a few discussions with me on ways to incorporate ICT into

    • Dr. Tan - The heritage trail is an excellent initiative. It is manageable and focused. The lessons learnt from it might inform other efforts.
However, while the activity might be engaging, it is not clear to me how it is personalized. Perhaps more specific examples of what the trail might look like would help.
I like how your change team includes the students. Which students exactly?

    Dear friends,

I humbly share my presentation. Please follow the link, download and open the ppsx file for your viewing. I apologise for the inconvenience but I am sure you will appreciate the simplicity once you view it.
    • Dr. Tan - An honest, even brutal presentation. :) Some thoughts:
Why those two tools in particular? Them not being IWBs is not good enough justification. There might be other tools that could offer the same advantages.
Student engagement might seem to be very important. But it is low hanging fruit. How might you bring about change by building on initial engagement?

      • Feb 29, 2012
    • Mr. Simon - eBeam Inscribe was selected because it allowed multiple users simultaneously. It has the potential for real time collaboration activity. Literacy builder was easy to pick up. It takes away the hassle of FLASH programming to create interactive games with ready made templates (mix-n-match, MCQ, matching, grouping, classification etc)

      • Mar 1, 2012
    • Mr. Simon - I agree that engaging the pupils is a low hanging fruit for ICT today. That was a project done in 2006.

    • Dr. Tan - Are you adopting the ideas from act21s.org wholesale or adopting/adapting? If so, why? If not, what is the plan?
You need to elaborate on articulation.

      • Feb 29, 2012
    • Mr. Chee Hui - The ATC21S project last year was in a trial stage with planning branch in 2011. unfortunately i was unable to look at the assessment rubics and the findings after the trial project. So im trying to adopt to the ideas first for our team/teachers to synthesis clearer understanding of how COL lessons look like and possibly how to assess col in class while we continue to stay on the pilot project this year since they agreed to share with us the rubics at the end of this year. After this year, we should be able to adapt it to our school context.

    • Dr. Tan - Your plan is not very clear. The plan also looks broad when presented as bullet points. Later on, iPad integration strategies seems to be the focus. Why not focus on just that?
How does the video of the flash mob illustrate leadership?
Overall: Your presentation starts with words and later gets driven by imagery. Try to find a balance so that you make your points more clearly.

      • Feb 29, 2012
    • Ren Ren D - Eventhough theres difference application use between the interactive and ipad and allocated for specific groups to use but the common basic needs is the interaction through sense of touch.
For the mob app, it is a presentation of understanding the technical and social affordances of the IPAD. Even within the same level of age group, the delivery of the subject and lesson plan varies from one class to class. The dozen of apps can be tap into meaningful , functional and creativity for individual need or interest of the pupils , By keeping it organised and sharing

    Dear All,

Please click on link for my flipped presentation.

    Thanks.
    • Dr. Tan - Nicely done. Some thoughts:
In your mission, do you distinguish between ICT and IT?
You probably realize that some of the elements in your PALS cycle are not exclusive to each category. Can you justify why one element is in one category and not another?

      • Feb 29, 2012
    • Whei Jie S. - Thanks.
When the mission statement is coined, I don't think there is serious thought about the terms ICT and IT. They are used interchangeably in my school context. HOD IT initially, then become HOD ICT. Perhaps there is scope to relook at these terms in greater detail again.
And yes, inevitably, there are some overlaps when it comes to PALS. e.g. comms is done mainly during the A and L stage, providing flexibility is done during the L and S stage, etc.
How I have categorised them is this:
Planning: Backend work before the change reaches the staff level
