About Martha Sette
Science is in my DNA - grandmother was a math/science teacher, aunt was a science teacher, my brother is an engineer, my mother was a medical lab tech, my grandfather was a surgeon in the Navy and he had 2 nuclear physicist brothers and a sister who was a nurse... science is like breathing in my family. I strive to bring this passion for science to my students. Moreover - I firmly believe we as citizens need to know science - scientific literacy is foundational to sustaining stable societies and world health.
I've lived in the Lowcountry for 24 years. I grew up in New York and attended Duke University. I earned my B.S. degree in Aquaculture & Environmental Technology from Florida Institute of Technology and my Master's in Biology from The Citadel. Before coming to Battery Creek High School I worked as a lifeguard & water safety instructor and summer youth employment program coordinator for the City of Rochester; marine educator & aquarist for the National Aquarium in Baltimore; and finally college professor at TCL (where I earned recognition as a SC Governor's "Distinguished Professor" and SC Technical Educator of the Year in 2004).
In my 7 years at BCHS I've taught honors & cp level sections in chemistry, physical science, and biology, as well as introductory health science, IB biology & environmental systems, and also AP Biology.
I'm married and have 2 fabulous daughters - they like science too!! 8>)
