About Mr. Joseph Gianotti

I have taught at Lowell High School since 1997. I've been assigned to English 9, English 10, English 11, World Literature, Speech, English Lab, and Honors English 9. I will teach Classical Literature for the first time during the 2012-2013 school year and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition for the fifteenth time.

I have been a team leader since 2007, served on numerous school improvement projects, and attended a wide range of conferences and seminars. I have been the Academic Teams' Director since 1999, coaching many great teams and great students.

My academic interests include 20th Century American Poetry, 20th Century American Short Story, Flannery O'Connor, Jean Paul Sartre, media literacy, film, rhetoric and composition, postmodernism, existentialism, the narrative form, Modern Fiction, differentiation, technology integration, multiple intelligences, Rigor, Relevance, Relationship framework, Advanced Placement, writing across the curriculum, Bloom’s Taxonomy, 21st century skills, literacy, and small learning communities.

Outside of school, I am an avid baseball fan and pop cultural connoisseur. I follow the Philadelphia Phillies religiously, and once upon a time, I could cover a lot of ground up the middle and pull two strike curve balls (those days are over). My favorite player of all time is Chase Utley. Some of my favorite movie directors include Woody Allen, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Ingmar Bergman, Quentin Tarantino, and Oliver Stone. Some of my favorite television programs include Northern Exposure, Lost, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Saturday Night Live, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
