About Mr. Mike Staton
Education has been my ticket to adapting to the changes the world has put in front of me. I began my career with a degree in Forestry and worked as a forester for the Weyerhaeuser Company on the Mt. St. Helens Tree Farm. After the eruption took my job away I was able to add to my degree and move into the field of Electronic Engineering. I owned and operated an electronics business for several years in the Seattle area. As the market changed I was able to sell and add to my degree to be able to move into the education field. I have been teaching AP and general chemistry since 2007 at Evergreen High School. Before that I taught Biology, Physical Science, and Physics either at R.A. Long High School or Evergreen High School. I have used a team learning pedagogy my entire teaching tenure. I believe it is the best way to bring all my students to a high level of understanding and it fits the model that industry and business require its employees to understand. I have adapted my pedagogical style towards the POGIL model (Process Orientated Guided Inquiry Learning) and am currently a POGIL Facilitator. I have also coached high school football and baseball for the past 20+ years.
