About Mr. Matthew Ivey
To understand me as a teacher, consider my thoughts on education:
With enough effort and initiative, most if not all students can achieve success in the language arts classroom. If a student wants to become a stronger reader, they must read. If a student wants to become a stronger writer, they must write. Authentic learning does not happen by cramming for a test or by being able to recite a textbook; it happens when learning becomes applicable and when students are interested in and engaged in the material at hand. As this philosophy demonstrates, careful attention must be placed on the major areas of English pedagogy, reading, writing, and literacy, if students are to receive an education that will guarantee success after graduation. Aptly educated students will enter the world understanding that learning language is a lifetime skill, and that knowledge transfers not only from grade to grade, but from graduation to grave.
