It began when my 4th grade teacher assigned 100 chapter books for summer reading. We had to keep a list with a summary of all the books we read. That was the beginning of my love of a "challenge." I read and kept a list, but by the time I had written my 20th summary, I was done. No more summaries, BUT I kept reading and writing the titles I read. When I finished my 100th book, I was thrilled! Going back to school in September, I couldn’t wait to share my exciting news with former & current teachers! My 5th grade teacher said, “That was nice of you to read so much.” Huh? My former 4th grade teacher said, “It was good for you to keep reading, but I never expected anyone to really read 100 books.” End of story. I felt as if I’d failed in my achievement. However, my love for reading never diminished, and it's my sweet escape.
