I teach Grade 4 in an elementary school in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Earlier in my career I taught in Victoria, BC and Kingston, Ontario. I have taught French Immersion, German and Spanish secondary classes.

I enjoy teaching in a region that is close to nature. In spite of it being in a large-city urban setting, our school is on the side of the Coast Mountain Range which borders on the north side of Vancouver, BC. The wilderness is literally 2 or 3 kilometers away. We only have to walk out our door to have access to forest trails where we might see deer, foxes, and the occasional black bear. Once in a while, a bear decides to join us for lunch, although we try to discourage them. We are also only 1 kilometer from an inlet of the Pacific Ocean and the Salish Sea.

I have used Edmodo with my classes for 3 years, and I find it an excellent way to motivate students to be involved in their learning, to communcate with each other, and this year, to get to know students in another part of Canada as members of a long-distance group. Edmodo facilitates students sharing resources such as YouTube videos and songs they enjoy, collaborating on class projects and helping each other with challenging assignments.
