About Mr. Paul Beavers
Upon completion of his B.A degree at David Lipscomb University in 1990, Mr. Beavers has worked at JT Moore for the tenure of his teaching career. In addition to his teaching, he has served as chair of the Parent Involvement Committee, Community Service Committee, and chair of the new Student Orientation Committee at JT Moore. He has served as the Project Pencil School Coordinator, 8th grade team leader, served on the principal selection committee, the Metro Nashville Social Studies textbook selection committee and created the Metro Nashville-Davidson County eighth grade American history Curriculum Guide in 1997, and the committee to create the Social Studies standards for Metro-Nashville Public Schools. Mr. Beavers served eight years as the boys' soccer coach, leading the team to 7 city play off tournaments, and two city championships.
Mr. Beavers was one of twenty Tennessee teachers to be selected to participate in the Colonial Williamsburg Summer Institute, and was selected to participate in the We The People Regional Seminar at Florida State University. He has created curriculum and has served as a History Textbook consultant and reviewer for McDougal Littell Publishing. He has designed and presented several workshops for graduate students, teachers, and administrators in the areas of Interdisciplinary Teaching Units, Reading/Writing in the Social Studies curriculum, Educational Travel Experiences for students, creating web pages, Generational Studies, Colonial Williamsburg, and has presented for NTTI (National Teaching Training Institute) since 2002. He has served on the Nashville Public Television's Advisory Committee, and was selected as a member of Who's Who Among American Teachers.
Mr. Beavers was selected as a participant in the Fulbright-Hays Grant trip to China for the summer of 2008 where he traveled and studied in China for a month. He visited the Great Wall near Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors of Xian, and took a boat down the Yangtze River, visiting the Three Gorges Dam along the way...and that's just a small bit of what all he experienced in China. Check out his blog for more about the trip.
Mr. Beavers loves to travel, and accompanied Ms. Cate and a group of JT Moore students to Italy and Spain in the summer of 2007. (The above picture is from the Colosseum in Rome) In the summer of 2008, Mr. Beavers and Ms. Cate were on the road again with a group of students to London, England and Paris, France.
In 2010 he took a group of 29 students, parents, and teachers from J.T. Moore to China for ten days. The trip included visits to Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai. Hightlights of that trip included visits to the Great Wall of China (in the snow), the Temple of Heaven, the Pudong Financial District of Shanghai, and of course the Forbidden City in Beijing...and much much more.
In the summer of 2011 Mr. Beavers took a group of about 27 students, teachers, and parents to Greece. The trip included visits to Athens and the surrounding area as well as a four day cruise of the Greek Islands, and the mainland of Turkey.
In addition to these trips, he has also made several road trips out west to California and back, with just the car, a tent, and a sleeping bag...visiting on one trip ELEVEN National Parks, EIGHTEEN states, and MEXICO...all within EIGHTEEN DAYS! His most recent visit out west was in the summer of 2010, with visits to the Badlands, Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, the Bighorn Mountains, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Park. So yes, he loves to travel.
In his free time Mr. Beavers loves hiking , camping, photography , reading , and most don't know...but he is a big COMIC BOOK GEEK . He HATES Starbucks/coffee, loves books better than TV, but loves TV better than movies, and Coke Zero is his weakness.
Mr. Beavers is originally from Florence, Alabama where his family now lives, but grew up in Columbia, Tennessee graduating from Columbia Academy. He has lived in Nashville since 1986 and proudly considers himself a Nashvillian.
