Katy Mattis grew up in Rhode Island and, after exploring 5 different states, settled in Colorado 10 years ago. Katy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Child Development from Hampshire College as well as a Masters of Education from Loyola University. Katy has also obtained her Colorado State Teaching License and Principal License from Western State. Additionally, Katy is certified in Elementary Montessori (6-12 years) from The Washington Montessori Institute and Assistants to Infancy (birth to 3 years) from The Montessori Institute in Denver.

Katy has worked primarily in public Montessori education as a classroom teacher, facilitator and administrator. Katy has worked as both a lower elementary teacher and upper elementary teacher for 9 years, including 5 years in the upper elementary at Denison Montessori School in DPS. Following the birth of her son, she moved to a ½ time Humanities Facilitator position at Denison. Most recently, Katy has been on charter school leave from DPS and working at Compass Montessori School (a JeffCo Charter school) as the Assistant Head of School and following the birth of her daughter, the part-time Elementary Program Director.

Katy is excited to be returning to Denver Public Schools as a Peer Observer. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, reading, yoga, hiking, volunteering at The Children’s Hospital NICU, exploring Colorado with her son and daughter and spending time with her family.
