About Helena Middle School PE Department
Our Mission Statement
It is our mission, with a servant’s heart, to help our students overcome challenges by instilling hope where there is little and by encouraging them to believe that they can become far more than they ever thought possible. We want to excite their learning with a genuine joy and enthusiasm for physical education and create a life-long desire to be active, healthy, and productive members of society. We will laugh with the students, cry with them, never give up on them, and strive to always put them first in the decisions we make for our classroom. Starting from the first day they step into the gym as a sixth grader, they will forever be considered as one of our own children and we will treat, motivate, and love them as such.
About Our Program
The focus for our students change with each grade level. In 6th grade, students will focus on basic skills, terminology, and rules in a variety of sports. When they move to the 7th grade we will introduce more advanced skills and basic game play. Once they reach the 8th grade, they will be ready for tactical strategies and more competitive game play.
The Importance of Health
At the beginning of every class we will introduce and discuss a different health topic that is important to the growth and development of our students. We will cover issues such as physical and mental health, how to make wise decisions, dealing with difficult situations, and how to set obtainable goals.
The Importance of Fitness
We will routinely assess the fitness level of every student. By participating in these assessments, students will see how their fitness level improves over the course of the year, what components of fitness they need to improve on, and learn how to set realistic fitness goals to work toward.
