About Mrs. Connie Peacock
Well, I've been teaching English through technology (rather than paper and pencil) since 2001. I love it!!!! I wish they had online courses when I went to high school. I must admit that I sat in some of my classes as a very passive learner just listening to the teacher go on and on. That was only in the courses I didn't like, however, and wasn't good at, and I know you would never do a thing like that.... but, I did. I admit it. Well, in online learning you choose the best time for learning. Are you a morning or a night person? Are you so hungry right now that you can't concentrate? Eat a burger and fries while in your online class. There are many advantages but this is supposed to be about me. :)
I would have loved online courses only I never would have taken one because back then I was scared of the computer. It seemed like every time I touched it- I broke it. In fact I went through college with a typewriter (which was unheard of a that time- everyone had a computer- laptops weren't around yet- but everyone had a computer). The problem with my little plan of "getting-away-from-technology" was that when I graduated college I couldn't get a decent job without having computer experience other than typing. I realized that my education/teachers had failed me. I had a BA but no one would hire me, except... a school district because "teachers don't need technology- they have been teaching just fine without it for years." Of course I wouldn't let the same thing happen to my students. So, I put a high priority on technology being the "paper and pencil" that will get you farther in life. This is an English class first, but I hope it will be a class that prepares you with additional skills (both with computers and higher level thinking) to make it in our fast-changing world.
