My name is Ms. Alvarez. I am starting my 6th year at Grand Prairie High and hope to retire here some day. I am also starting my 10th year of teaching. I graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. West Texas. I majored in All-Level Physical Education with a minor in Spanish. I loved college! I am the baby of 4 and the first to graduate from college out of my family. I have a mom, 2 dads, 2 older sisters, an older brother, and 10 nieces and nephews. I was a surprise baby. You will hear the story some day, I'm sure.
I am just like you in a lot of ways. I was a student that should have been in AVID, but we didn't have it in my school when I was in high school; however, I had the desire to advance via my own individual determination, and I did. I have many stories to share with you, and I will. I realized in 10th grade that I was smart, I was worthy of a college education and I was important for this world. No matter what anyone else thought of me, all that mattered and still matters, is what I think of myself.
