Kathy Craven is a documentary filmmaker and educator with Master’s Degree from the University of Florida’s Documentary Institute. She teaches Filmmaking Principles in Education in the Education Media Design & Technology Master’s program. The course explores the technical and story aspects of filmmaking, visual literacy, and incorporating digital storytelling into the learning environment. She utilizes an online platform that allows students to see her feedback in an audio/video format, creating a greater sense of community. Students form production crews by collaborating from remote locations to create digital stories within a virtual world. Kathy is an Apple Distinguished Educator and was the United States Distance Learning Association's 2011 Silver Award winner for Excellence in Distance Learn Teaching.

Kathy is passionate about stories, especially from voices that might never be heard if it were not for the increasing access to digital media. On her dream day she is traveling with her family listening to stories from a humble Imam in a remote African village.
