About Mrs. Stephanie Garrett
I would like to take the time and introduce myself. I am Mrs. Garrett. I will be teaching your child 6th grade Mathematics for the 2011-2012 school year. I grew up in League City and graduated from the University of Houston- Clear Lake. Last year, I had the opportunity of working with many of your students to prepare them for the TAKS test. As we venture into the new STAAR test this year, I am looking forward to working with each and every one of your children. I hope to strengthen not only the student’s math abilities, but their love of math as a whole. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your student.
This year is going to be an exciting year in math. As we transition from one concept to another, I will be providing the students with learning opportunities they will enjoy. Majority of our learning will be hands on and applied in each and every class. I believe the more students can apply what they have learned to real life and real life objects; the more likely they are to remember it. I hope to give each student a new perspective on Math and develop their love for it.
This year you can expect your student to have math homework, as well as a few math projects. Homework will always be given on Tuesday, Due on Friday; and on Friday due on Tuesday. I believe in giving the students a few days to complete each homework assignment, as I know many of them have extracurricular activities that would limit the amount of homework time they are able to apply. By giving them a few days in between each due date, this allows the students more time to think, apply knowledge, and complete each assignment. Homework will always be posted on the board, and each student should be copying the agenda and assignments in their student handbook.
Classroom behavior expectations, Rules, and Procedures are outlined in the attached packet. Consequences and misbehavior will be handled as outlined in the student’s school handbook. Students who wish to misbehave will be removed from the group and asked to copy the Refocus sheet, as well as a Parent Letter. The parent letter should be signed and returned within one day of completion.
If you have any questions please fell free to contact me through the school or email address. My contact information and conference times are listed below. I look forward to hearing from you and am so excited to get to teach your child. Please sign and have your student return the bottom portion of the parent letter.
