About Mrs. Adrianna Westman
Adrianna Westman is beginning her twentieth year as a science teacher. She has taught Biology, Physical Science, AP Biology, Honors/GT Biology, Anatomy/Physiology and Zoology. She works very hard to plan, implement, and share lessons that are engaging and fun but demonstrate rigor and relevancy for her students. In her five years at Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center, Mrs. Westman’s classroom has been the recipient of 6 grants from Donor's Choose and the Wayne Township Education Foundation: http://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/365123.-... Mrs. Westman is a cooperating mentor teacher for the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship program for the University of Indianapolis working to build the skills and confidence of new teachers.
Mrs. Westman is originally from Baytown, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1994. From 1994-1995, she taught at Tarkington High School in Cleveland, Texas. From 1995-2000 she taught at Elkins High School in Sugar Land, Texas. From 2000 – 2005 she taught at Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas. In 2005, she moved to Avon, Indiana so that her husband could serve as the Director of Education for Bands of America. From 2005 – 2007 she taught at Decatur Middle School. From 2007 – present she has been a part of Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center. In May of 2010, Mrs. Westman graduated with a MSED in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in technology from Indiana University.
Mrs. Westman has worked to help and support students in many capacities. In 1994-1995 she served as the Drill Team instructor. In 1996, Mrs. Westman helped to organize and coordinate students and community members in the construction of the Imperial Sugar Treatment Wetland. From 1997 – 2000 she served as the JV Cheerleading coach. In 1998, she was a member of the FBISD textbook planning committee. From 1995 – 2005 she served as band chaperone and from 2007 - present she serves as orchestra mom.
Mrs. Westman has been happily married for 16 years to Dean Westman, who is currently the orchestra director at Avon High School. She has been an avid supporter her husband’s work with bands, orchestras and drum corps around the world. She is also a proud mom of Abby Westman, who will be in ninth grade this year.
