About Mr. Jackson Yeo
I have been teaching for 24 years now. I started in Boon Keng Primary in 1988. I went on to Coral Primary in 1999 until now. I have taught Science , English, Art, Social Studies, Health Education, Sexuality Education and Music. I have always been searching for new innovative ways to teach my students. After learning WHAT to teach, I realised that to be an effective teacher, we need to know HOW to teach. I learnt that teaching my students HOW to learn is very important. I teach them memory techniques and mindmapping which are powerful tools for a student to excel. Then I discovered that the attitude of a student is just as important. When I am able to convince them that if they have dreams and goals in their lives, they will have a sense of purpose of what education can do. With positive mindset and encouraging them to be WINNERS' and not a LOSERS' attitude, it goes a long way in motivating themselves to strive their BEST. Now, with Mr Daley's Gamification Idea, it gets even better in motivating the students that learning can be FUN as well. :) The work and effort attached to Gamification of the classroom is massive but the results can be AWESOME!!! Edmodo is a platform where ideas of almost any kind can be carried out. What will come next??? Only time will tell:) But Games need to be changed regularly as students' attention and interest is very short. This might be difficult as the teacher must come up with brand new ideas all the time. How do we cultivate the interest in the games if no other material gains are given to students? Still Edmodo does not end there. We can also use it for checking on behaviour as well. Do add me so that we can explore further how we can enhance our students' learning:)
