Please share one major takeaway from this course. Feel free to add any other relevant comments or feedback.
    • Mr. Mok - In the context of ICT implementation, change is the only constant. As a HOD of ICT, I can adopt PALS (Planning, Articulating, Leading and Sustaining) for change. In addition, it will be essential to consider other factors like the mental model and readiness of staff. It is also very insightful and informative for me to learn from peers from other school based on the Flipped Presentation. Hopefully, i will be the change agent for my school.

      • Mr. Tay - Change is a constant. However, change may not be always welcome by all. The first step towards change will be the changing the mindset of the change activist. The change activist must first believe in the change and experience the change for themselves. Without this conviction, little will be accomplished.
My initial perception for gaming has always been gear towards the negative perception of it taking away precious time from study, leading to poor results in the students in some instances where gaming addiction is concerned. The idea of using games for learning is relatively

      • Ms. Anita - Be the change. It is okay to fail as failure will bring us to another level higher towards a more enriching learning. Failure will breed success. PALS framework serves as a guide in implementing change and it has given me an insight in managing and leading change. Many know that there is a need to change but there are indeed many obstacles to it. Hence, dare to make the change and remove the barriers that block the change. This course has made me realise that with careful planning, change can happen successfully and it can be sustained as well. An insighful elective more...

      • Mr. Kwee - The HOD/IT can take the lead in various plans. They need to ensure proper planning, articulating, leading before rolling out. Most and foremost, there need to be buy-in esp from the IP HODs, as they are the one to run the program. Thus, they must also be involved in the discussion and planning. A key obstacle is the fear of results dipping, and whether IT is needed. The response could be why not?

      • Ms. Lee - I find learning truly meaningful for this elective as learning embodies the spirit of GBL (learning from hands-on experience to doing it actually). The linear flow for buy-in leads to ownership and with ownership reaping sustained change is an interesting visual illustration. However, I hope that the linear flow can evolve to the reinforcing virtuous loop and set the basis to the sprouting ICT culture. I can understand that the rationale to the linearity echoing the need to articulate change as a constant reminder, be it that technological landscape is constantly shifting. more...

      • Ms. Tan - kudos to Ashely in how he organized and conducted this elective which is not easy to teach change. I have learnt how to introduce change in pals framework. I especially like the flipped classroom concept and I will definitely implement it in my classroom.

      • Mr. Ng - Change is the only constant. As MM, we should lead the change in school and PALS approach helps to guide and manage change. In today's flipped presentations, articulation of the rationale for change is key to implementation of changes in the school. The course also made me realize that with planning in place, changes will take place smoothly but it is also important to consider strategies for sustaining the change.

      • Ms. Lim - I would greatly treasure PALS as it is very crucial to making change possible. I would apply PALS in any idea and initiatives which I would put into the school.

      • Ms. Siew Hoon - My mindset in certain areas has been changed. I like the idea of flipped classroom though I wonder if it works with weaker pupils in the class. My major takeaway is the articulating and sustaining change with ICT. For ICT to be more prevalent, I got to pay more attention to the articulation aspect as instead of just sharing with the management but to other stakeholders as well. I should also pay more attention to sustaining change, an area that I have gotten complacent about.

      • Mr. Hamwal - The Flipped Classroom is an enabler to better engagement in learning because
        1. It is a smaller group
        2. There is a ready audience (bought in)
        3. Thoughtful use of time for learners to move around
PALS is a great tool to not only understand Change, but also to understand the context of where Change will be introduced.
Implementation is a messy process, but messy means there is engagement.
Getting down in dirty in doing PALS of change is common, before the goals of change can be seen.

      • Ms. Tan - Change is a constant feature especially in the portfolio of HOD ICT. Very importantly, the change needs to centre on people, to equip them with the skills for PALS. Only then there is deep learning and change can be enculturalised.

      • Mr. Tan - I have learned a lot from Ashley and everyone in the module, my sincere thanks for that. I particularly liked the concept of the flipped classroom. It is something that is both doable/feasible and also a great way to effect better pedagogy.

      • Mindy Ng - Managing the psychological aspect of change is as important as managing the physical and structural aspect of change. Context and people are also key components of change. PALS and the various frameworks of adapted PALS that we have look at are also useful guides to keep in mind when implementing change. The MXL room itself has also provided an interesting example of the use of space which I would consider in the upcoming PRIME. Sad to see it go.

      • Ms. BH - Change is seldom seen as positive. The course has provided experiences that presented possibilities more than challenges and I think that staying positive and enthusiastic is very important when leading and managing change. The learning on principles for GBL had challenged my own mindset about playing games for learning and I see potential for a certain level of implementation in school. I questioned my own thinking as well as behaviour when going through the plan to implement a change, it is an excellent mental exercise, though putting it to work is another story. Being able more...

      • Mr. Ho - It is a blessing to be in this course. The insight and practical use of Flipped and PALS make real sense in the implementation of ICT. It caught me thinking and reflecting on my current and futue ICT plans. It must be something I dare to do and feasible and well supported. If I am not the change in my teaching, my teachers ad school leaders will not believe in the change. There must also be reasonable and balance use of ICT and ancient technology. Achieving Cooperative and Collaborative learning is different and the objectve and purpose of my future ICT lesson must be carefully more...

      • Mr. Andy - Time flies! I still remembered that after the first lesson, I was kind of regret that I had signed up for this elective. I was overwhelmed with the criteria set by Dr Ashely. The non-traditional ways of presentation really stressed me up at first.
However, despite the demanding assignments, my perception of this elective changed as the weeks progress. I got excited and looked forward to the weekly presentation from my peers instead. I have indeed learned a lot in terms of the theories and strategies being applied to every stages of PALS. In addition, I really like the

      • Mr. Tan - Leading change is more than just acquiring physical resources, changing the mindset of people is a more challenging task, but can also tapped as powerful coalition to enable change. The course has far exceeded expectation and has benefited immensely from this class. The experience gained in the entire course will be remembered for a long while. Thank you.

      • Ms. Yeo - A major takeaway for me is experiencing Assessement As Learning in this module. I learnt and inspired to learn even more from the tasks assigned.

      • Mr. Wum - Thanks Ashley. This is the most mind-blowing course that I have attended so far. It is not just ICT but a whole new mindset change.
Should non-ICT HOD sign up for this course? Why not? Should we use game based learning in our classroom? Why not? Can we use flipped classroom approach for lower band learners? Why not? Will we have the time to do all these? Why not?
The next time whoever asks me whether something can be achieved, I must learn to ask 'Why not?' Some time we don't have to follow the rules blindly just to be politically correct. We can
